Flickinger is “ok” as far as I am concerned. I say ok, mainly because their shipping charges are on the higher side compared to other retailers...JCNorthway wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 9:01 pm What has been anyone's experience with shipping from Flickinger? Re: Deals Thread
My experience with Flickinger is 'ok' but I think overall they are difficult to deal with, and unless its something rare/special, would not deal with them. I unsubscribed to their emails.
I'm not sure what the deal is with Illinois & Shipping but everything that touches that fairly major hub seems to cost too much.

Re: Deals Thread
I have had only good experiences with Flickinger. I purchased infrequently and in small quantities when they had something older or hard to find at a good price. Never a problem with signs of poor storage or heat damage.
I never had them ship. I always picked up in person when in Chicago for business. It’s been years, so I don’t recall if they didn’t ship to MD or shipping was too expensive for the small purchases I was making. I timed it so pickups were within a few months. No hassles or storage charges. Occasionally it took 10 minutes or so for them to root around and find my wine when I came to pick it up, not a problem for me. They are off the beaten path for taxis so I had the cab wait. Guess that’s less of an issue now in the Uber/Lyft era.

Michael’s Wine Cellar has a few 2019 Ch. Figeac that’s close to original futures pricing at $204/btl. Next cheapest I see on WS Pro is $285/btl.
Re: Deals Thread
Too good to be true?
They were offering it in April at $170 (http://www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.com/ ... 65#p103165) and I bit, only to hear from them saying they were shorted on their allocation and didn’t have enough to fill the order. They quickly refunded my credit card, so no issues there.
It’s still listed on their website so I called today. I was told the 2019 is not available, but the 2018 is. Sounds like you cleaned them out and/or their website is not up to date. Or I’ve been banned from the store…

Hope you get it at that price Jim.
Re: Deals Thread
So I think I got lucky on this one, David. They said they didn’t have inventory but they’d give me 3 mags instead of the 6 750’s that I had ordered. Fingers crossed they arrive as stated as it’s a very good deal at todays market prices!DavidG wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 5:11 pmToo good to be true?

I must have also gotten lucky here. Bit on the same back then. My six 2019 750s came back in May or early June.DavidG wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 5:11 pmToo good to be true?

Re: Deals Thread
Garagiste/Rimmerman is offering the 1998 La Tour du Pin Figeac [St Emilion] for $37 at the moment.
It has a good location, somewhat in between Cheval Blanc and Figeac.
Rarely seen and I think the vineyard has now been absorbed into one those estates.
I enjoyed quite a bit the 1989 if memory serves me.

$50 off $300 coupon at Wine.com good until 11/30: NOVMEMBER.
I think anyone can use it. Wines ending in .97 are not eligible.

Sorry, I had a typo in the Wine.com $50 off $300 code.
It should be NOVMEMBER.
Fixed above as well.
Possibly only good for people who are "Stewardship" members?

Re: Deals Thread
Already snagged a few but left some - 2014 Ch. Palmer for 20% off (20Turkeys code) at collectiblefinewine.com. $287 x .8 = ~$230/btl pre-tax… with WS low on 2021 vintage of $280, I’ll say “thank you very much”

Re: Deals Thread
I’ll also mention they have 2012 Trotanoy at a great price as well with the same coupon - I don’t expect these to last very long, so act quickly…
Re: Deals Thread
Another heck of a deal…
Same site as above collectiblefinewine.com and use Elf30 at checkout for 30% off…great deals like 2014 Cheval Blanc at sub $400 and a lot of other crazy prices post discount (not sure if it’s the whole site or just some wines). I’m not sure how long their inventory will remain in stocks at these prices but I’m definitely scooping up at least a few bottles…

Elf30 gave me anywhere from 15-19% off at collectiblefinewine.com depending on what was in my cart. Still some excellent prices.
Jim do you know if they’ll hold shipping until spring? All but the ground rates are outrageous.

Re: Deals Thread
Wow this was quite a deal for some of their wines. It appears it was 30% off on some, and nothing on others. Hence why David was getting the 15-19% range. I looked at this last night but didn't pull the trigger. Missed out on some 2000 Trotanoy for sub $300 and 29 bottles of Bereche all gone this morning. Next time I'll have to jump on this, although if they're selling at 30% off everything, might make me think they could be closing down.JimS wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 6:23 pm Another heck of a deal…

They do this deal every year actually - it’s really quite stellar. So the reason why you probably didn’t get the full 30% off was because some wines didn’t qualify for it. If you are on their mailing list, they list all of the wines that qualify. A lot of the really good deals have all been picked over at this point, but still may have some interesting ones out there. If you are looking for stellar QPR white burgs, Chavy-Chouet isn’t one to sleep on and I believe they still have several of them available. The fantastic Bordeaux deals are all unfortunately picked over from what I can see but I may have missed some. They’ve been in business a while and I have had nothing but positive experiences with them. They are usually priced quite fairly and turn through inventory quickly given their price points on a fair bit of wines.
Here’s the Bordeaux they had (all prices are PRE 30% off, so so the math…):
Bordeaux
1 1980 Chateau Haut-Brion $473
5 1989 Chateau Leoville Poyferre $237
1 1998 Chateau La Coupsaude $88
3 2000 Chateau Trotanoy $381
5 2005 Chateau L'Eglise-Clinet $478
1 2009 Chateau Latour 'Les Forts de Latour' $270
11 2009 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 'Grand Vin de Leoville' $301
1 2009 Chateau Pichon-Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville (5000mL) $2,651
1 2009 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Leognan $212
1 2009 Chateau Trotanoy (3000mL) $1,501
10 2010 Chateau Haut-Brion $964
11 2010 Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion $655
10 2010 Chateau Latour 'Les Forts de Latour' $271
2 2010 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases 'Grand Vin de Leoville' $280
5 2010 Chateau L'Evangile $271
4 2010 Chateau Lynch-Bages $204
1 2010 Chateau Lynch-Bages (1500mL) $461
1 2010 Chateau Pavie (3000mL) $1,695
5 2012 Chateau Trotanoy $238
2 2014 Chateau Cheval Blanc $534
1 2014 Chateau Montrose (3000mL) $655
11 2014 l'If Saint Emillon $188
Re: Deals Thread
They usually are pretty reasonable about things like this - I’d be surprised if they wouldn’t hold for you. Check my post below about the Bordeaux wines they had listed that qualified for 30% off. Not all of their inventory qualifies for the sale, so that’s probably why you had 15-19% off. If there are any wines remaining later today, they will have a new code for 40% off. But, I’d assume a lot of the good stuff has been picked over by then, though for certain wines, they’re still just giving it away at these prices. They do this once a year, so it’s worth getting on the mailing list when they do it (they have a similar sale in the summer but the wines included pale in comparison to the ones at the end of the year).

“How it works:
* Below is a grouping of wines that are included.
* The first day of the sale will be for 20% off and a specific discount code will be issued for 20%.
* What remains the second day will be offered at 30% off with a specific discount code for 30%
* What remains on the final day will be offered at 40% off with a specific discount code for 40%
* This is an online/website sale only. We’re giving our staff the next few days off to celebrate with their families so if you want something, please use the coupon code and order from the Website. We won’t be around to place orders via the phone or email.
* This is the entire list of wines in the Holiday Sale and will not be updated daily. It’s up to you to determine when you want to pull the trigger by going to the website and ordering.
* If you try to place an order for a wine(s) and it’s no longer on the website, it is because somebody has already ordered it.
* Please remember, this is a website only sale. Our staff will be off enjoying the holiday with their families and not responding to emails/phone calls.
We wish all of you a Happy Holiday and thank you again for the great support in 2022.
Enter Frosty40 for today's purchases!”
Be sure to use Frosty40 code today for whatever remains that you may want to snag…I doubt these will last long so early bird gets the worm…

Re: Deals Thread
Ha no need to apologize Jimmy, there are some nice deals in there!
Re: Deals Thread
Yes, they sent me an email saying they would hold shipping until spring. There were some good deals in there. Thanks for the heads up Jim. I'm now on their mailing list.
I went back to peruse the list again now that they're up to 40% off today. The only Bordeaux left is 1 bottle of 1998 Cheval Blanc at $1400, and the Frosty40 coupon doesn't apply. Also had some Bonneau Celestins and Beaucastel Hommage in my cart but they're not on sale either.

Re: Deals Thread
Glad to hear you managed to snag some - I bought wayyyy too much myself (a lot of burgs at prices I just couldn’t refuse) and noticed especially within the last 24 hours A LOT was scooped up…I managed to get a few of the 2019 Clos des Lambrays for like $313 (WS low is $500/btl) and various others. If anyone is looking for some white burgs at 40% off I did see some of Alex Moreau’s still around at what amounts to ~$100/btl…a steal at that price as this producer is on the rise…concentrated yet elegant - a producer who is doing things the right way..and as I mentioned Chavy Chouet…just can’t go wrong at those prices if they’re still around. Merry Christmas all!DavidG wrote: ↑Sun Dec 25, 2022 5:51 pm Yes, they sent me an email saying they would hold shipping until spring. There were some good deals in there. Thanks for the heads up Jim. I see people got in on the collectible fine wine sale…perhaps you guys are the reason my strategy of waiting for deeper discounts on the good stuff basically failed lol
I’m perpetually short of champagne and whites so I did pick up 3*2015 Bereche Grand Cru Champagne for $133/bottle all in (including tax and shipping)…don’t know the producer but they seem to have a good rep on various boards and the price seemed well under retail. Also 4*2018 and 2019 Jadot Corton Charlemagne for $145/bottle all in. As per usual with these sales these appeared to be deals relative to market but I wonder if they were a deal in an absolute sense.

Re: Deals Thread
I’m hoping some of the Bordeaux wines (or the others) went to some of you here on the board. I saw on the final two days of the sale this gained traction on another board and saw a lot of the remaining inventory vanish quickly. If the economy really does turn and unemployment rises in 2023, I’ll be curious to see if we don’t get a lot more sales across the board here in the US (for the wrong reasons though
)

Re: Deals Thread
Having champagne on hand never seems to solve this problem… I buy cases of the stuff and almost magically it’s all gone before I can even stop to appreciate that well-stocked feeling.marcs wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 1:05 am I’m perpetually short of champagne and whites so I did pick up 3*2015 Bereche Grand Cru Champagne for $133/bottle all in (including tax and shipping)…don’t know the producer but they seem to have a good rep on various boards and the price seemed well under retail. For some inexplicable reason I'm optimistic about 2023.
I wish I could find some Champagne in NH.
I wish I could find some Champagne in NH.
Re: Deals Thread
Champagne prices have gone from bad to worse it seems. To take one example, the 2012 Dom Perignon is *only* $259 at K&L, the same outfit where I got the 2008 Dom for $136. I did pick up some 2012 Cristal for $230 at Costco though.
Re: Deals Thread
What's pumping up bubbly prices? They seem to have gone up more than peers, and other imports?
Re: Deals Thread
I wish I knew - I don't have nearly as good of a pulse on that segment of the market as some of the other segments that I drink more regularly, but from what I have read it all has really been due to supply moreso than an increase in demand. The problem, as I see it, is all you need is some decent upward price momentum, and the speculators then pounce, and it just becomes a double whammy and goes parabolic (i.e. the way of Burgundy). I hope I am wrong on this as I have only recently started drinking more champagne and acquired a newfound appreciation of it, but inflation mindset + scarcity = no bueno...
