So this wine I rated 100 points upon release and again another time or two since. I have decided that I'm going to uncork one bottle per year until all 18 bottles are gone or I'm gone, whichever comes first. Let's see how this puppy is doing at the ten year mark....

Oh this is a beauty right out of the gate, on both the nose and palate....

Tonight we are drinking 1998 Beau-Sejour Becot. This is a lovely, old styled, unpretentious right bank wine. It is well balanced with a tart and sweet red berry profile and pleasing aftertaste that tickles the tonsils. My data base said that we have 5 bottles left, but I am sorry that a physical inventory proves that this is our last bottle.

We are actually beginning to run low on mature Bordeaux at our Texas home. I have bought a lot for Oregon in the last four years, but essentially none for Texas. In a couple of years we will either have to move to Oregon or I will have again to buy Bordeaux for Texas.

Interesting that you are drinking Beausejour Becot, Stefan, I was just looking at buying some 2019 and 2020 this afternoon but the price has gone over $70, which has given me some pause. I've enjoyed recent vintages (as well as older vintages) of this but at like $75 I'll only buy an extra bottle or two. But you are right, throughout the history of BWE this has been a solid, correct, lovely "unpretentious" right banker....

Calon Segur, my favorite Bordeaux nowaday. Did not had the 2014, but 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2020 are all great in their way. I have some 2016 and 2018, but did not had them yet. Left a bottle of 2018 to Jim this summer.

I have few bottles of the 2018 Beau-Séjour Bécot. Nice wine, for a 2018.

No wine for me tonight : belly left side of my nostril hurting since dinner last night. Will wait tomorrow to see if i feel better.

Picked up some 2021 this week: Cantemerle, Lagrange, Brane-Cantenac and Grand-Puy Lacoste, 3 bottles of each.

Boy I don’t know if this wine hits 100 points, but it is up there. What gorgeous aromatics, and cassis on the palate, almost Pauillac and Lafite like, but still true to St. Estephe. I’m probably the only person in the world that has rated this 100 points but for my palate, this style hits the spot. Rating: 99 points.

2014 Calon Segur has been on my wish list to backfill for some time now but it just keeps creeping up in price.

I tried a 2014 CS from a magnum bottle in April 2024, and it was completely closed. I tried it again in September 2024 from a regular bottle, and while it was impressive, I don't think it deserves a perfect 100 points.

B.Becot has changed its personnel in 2017, and the 2022 and 2023 vintages are imho the best yet for this property. Since 2012, vines from La Gomerie, another vineyard owned by the Becots, have been incorporated into B.Becot. At half the price of the neighboring Duffau Lagarrosse, it's a no-brainer for me to buy!!

I am a Bordeaux Wine Enthusiast, GBF, I expect few to fully comprehend the true glories of the 2014 vintage. I’ve really enjoyed the 2011 Calon Segur as well. I’ve enjoyed both of these vintages more than the 2009.

Tonight we drink 2002 Calon Segur with lamb chops. It's been open for two hours. Not much of a bouquet, but good, stern St Estephe fruit in the mouth. It should be OK with the lamb, but I hope that the aromatics develop.

Mmm I drank all mine. To me the 2002 Calon Segur is wonderfully stern.

I'm not supposed to drink anymore due to liver damage.
C'est la vie.
But Susan and I have our 70th bday dinner coming up and I'm breaking the rules.
I lined up some old school Bourdeaux. Our sentimental favorite 1982 Calon Segur and a bargained priced 1986 Lafaurie Peyraguey. If I live I'll post notes. Dinner isn't till first week of November.

We sure miss y'all!

Welcome back, Rob! You and Susans have a happy birthdays, if ya'll make it to age 70. As for me, I am hoping to be around to celebrate my 80th in December. Got to make it to catch up with Lucie.

In the not too distant future we can again share wine in That Great Tasting Room in the Sky. No medical problems there.

Man you are so lucky Rob, my mother’s parents came from Quebec, a few years back I looked into it but I think they had changed the rules a few years before that. If Orange Head gets back in there perhaps I’ll start a movement to have Maine secede to Canada, if unsuccessful I still have my wine cellar bunker, but I just don’t think 1200 bottles will get me through the full four years.

Jim. If either of your immediate parents were born in Canada you are able to become a Canadian citizen. This came into law a few years ago. Just a matter of navigating some paperwork and gathering documents like birth certificates to establish lineage. I'm now getting a Canadian passport with Nic being my quarantor. Once I get my passport I can be a quarantor.

You lucky bum. Yeah it used to be even more liberal, if your grandparents came over, but now it's just parents. My Mom was born in the U.S. to Canadian immigrants.
