Both are great, but for me the 2019 vintage is more "interesting" than 2020.

So in the past month I've tested the 2019 vs. 2020 Siran, 2019 vs. 2020 Langoa Barton, and 2019 vs. 2020 Phelan Segur. And I also had a 2020 Lafon Rochet. My experience corroborated what I have slowly come to conclude, that 2019 is the better, more interesting vintage, high 14% alcohol levels for both vintages but it does not seem present at all in the more structured 2019s, where the tannins just seem so perfectly ripe and smooth, the 2019s have a personality while being classically styled, I don't think those terms are mutually exclusive. The 2020s seem a bit hotter to me, more of a Parkerized style, I got a bit of the same "internationalized" experience with the 2020 Phelan Segur as I did with the 2020 Lafon Rochet, which, as Nicola said, is "not St. Estephe." The 2019 Phelan Segur was much more along the lines of the stunning 2016 Phelan Segur. I continue to maintain that the 2019 Langoa Barton is "the greatest Langoa Barton ever," a notch above the rich, almost scorched 2020 Langoa. The 2020 Siran seems to get the higher scores from the critics but having now tasted the 2019 and 2020 twice each, the 2019 Siran is the clear favorite for my taste. None of this is to say that 2020 is a slouch of a vintage -- I clearly like the 2020 La Lagune better than its also outstanding 2019 counterpart -- maybe things shift as we move south and across the river? -- but at least in my experience so far, the 2019 vintage is the more interesting vintage vis a vis 2020. And the prices for both vintages are still in a good place, some of the best deals out there in the wine world right now, as far as I'm concerned.

How would you compare 2016 and 2019? They’re the two recent vintages I’ve cellared the most. Early results on 2016s have been very encouraging, but I haven’t dipped into the 2019s yet.

Good analysis Jim, and you know i share the same conclusion for the moment.

I think the homogeneity is better in 2019, and i liked mostly all2019i had, while 2020 is more s mixed bag. I really liked the 2020 GPL, but did not had the 2019 yet.

Boy, David, when I drink the 2016s I think that vintage is better, then when I drink the 2019s I think they are even more profound. That 2016 Lafite I had with Nicola this summer was literally a perfect Bordeaux, it was literally everything I look for in a wine. 2016 may be just a touch lower in alcohol, which I like, 2019 may have just a hint of more personality.... They are both brilliant vintages, I've got a lot of each, a good problem to have.

I’ve done quite a few tastings of 19 and 20 and will also go to the Decanter Singapore tastings on Saturday and some estates have both.

The most recent tasting was comparing a few Pessac and St Emilion wines from each vintage and the best wine was 2019 Pape Clement, though different tasters sometimes preferred the 2020 of both the PC and others.

I bought both the 2020 and 2019 PC after the event but no more St Emilions as I have quite a few from both vintages including some I’ve never bought before such as Valandraud and De Ferrand or not for some time like Canon and Pavie Macquin.

At the Union tasting of 2020s most right bank producers felt that these wines will take longer to mature than 19 though few would be drawn on which is better. The left bank producers felt the two vintages were qualitatively equivalent - so a matter of what you prefer I suppose.

Both are excellent vintages and I hope to try them in some years side by side in a decade or more.

For me 2020 has a little bit more of this burnt sugar overripeness, which I really don't like. But everyone's palate is a little bit different...

Try the 2020 Canon vs 2019.
Both are outstanding but seriously the 2020 is better and was THE best wine I tried at the Union tastings.
I have tried at least 50 of both and in the case of 19, some several times.
I really like both, and said repeatedly that 19 is the real deal but some right bank wines in 2020 are absolute knockouts.
