Pre new year dinner

Post by Nicklasss »

We did a dinner on Dec 30th with my brother family. It was a great time, and we did opened a few (too much?) bottle of wines, drank over an 11 hours period.

Ruinart Blanc de blancs was nice, with a nice mixture of white and yellow fruits, salty minerals, chalk. Lot of finesse, great but a bit pricey.

The dry white Collioure was stunning in minerality, freshness, elegance, salty dry weed, with lot of poise for a white from that Southern aoc. Half magic.

The 2 Barolo were nice, the 2016 Cogno more on red fruit, slightly meaty and peppery, and also leathery. Medium concentration, balanced, a very nice wine. The 2017 Marcarini was lighter, more menthol, small red berries, freshness, cinnamon, and some light roses. Excellent too, but i gave the edge to Cogno.

The 2005 Haut Bailly is great, classic style, good concentration of red and blackcurrant fruit, minerals, smoke, light licorice, leather and flowers. Will be great for many more years but very drinkable now, at 20 yo.

The 2016 Gouges was well very Burgundian : hard to define, complex, stewed fruits mineral light vine wood, mineral, light musky or animal touch, with a long final full of elegance. Medium body but very NSG masculine mixture. Drinks well now too. Delicious.

Finally, i discussed a lot about Clos de la Roulette and this bottle was very complex and complete. Stellar Fleurie.

Very Healthy and Happy New Year to all my BWE friends.

HNY, Nic. The only surprise is that the young Gouges is already good to go.

Hi stefan.

This premier cru from Gouges has the reputation to be the one in his lineup that mature early.

It was excellent.

I just found a 2009 Pavelot Savigny at my father inlaw house. He told me i left it at his place years ago, to drink later…. But even better, i also left him a 2001 Dreyer Riesling Kaefferkopf also years ago… that i bought in Alsace in 2004.
