The wines we drank in our apartment in Condrieu. The 2024 Saint-Joseph Blanc from Jolivet (a young/new producer) was recommended to us by someone in the crowd at the Wine Market. I found the wine too rich and sweet compared to other producers. It was oily, more like marmalade and sweet honeydew melon, which made the wine heavy. A shame. Rated 84.
On the wine side, Peyss 2024, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, Marsanne and Roussanne. Excellent wine for 15 euros. Nose of apricots, quince, light white honey, flint. Palate with good richness, white flowers, apricots, and a hint of almond. Very good, low acidity, but very drinkable. Excellent with cheeses. Rated 91.
The Alfred de Rothschild Cuvée Excellence 2016 Champagne was excellent for… 24 euros at a grocery store! Brioche notes, slight oxidation, fruit a bit subdued but with hints of green/yellow pear and yellow apple. Good bubbles, medium acidity. Very good. Rated 90.
The 2024 Mairlant from François Villard was tasted to compare with the Peyss. Villard's was less concentrated, fresher, with light touches of green fruit and minerality. No flaws, but simpler; I can easily picture it chilled by the pool. Rated 85-86.
Château de Corcelles Fleurie 2020 (also €15) doesn't pair as well with cheese, but it's a true Fleurie! The nose offers aromas of strawberry plants, strawberries, cherries, and dark purple flowers. There's a spicy note, with hints of sweet cinnamon. The nose is very elegant. The palate follows the nose, with lovely complexity, but also some granite minerality. Very drinkable, too. However, it's excellent with terrine. Rated 91-92.
The white label is Trapet's 2022 red Burgundy. Young, primary, concentrated, it's a bit of an anomaly for a regional Burgundy! The attack is of ripe, concentrated red berries, but what else? Perhaps a touch of cinnamon and smoky oak, but it needs time. Medium to low acidity. After two small glasses, it was enough for me. Rated 87, but it will likely be better in 8-10 years.
The 2016 Croix Penet Régnié was excellent. Compared to the Fleurie, it seemed very Régnié-like with its intense purple fruit, spicy notes, floral character, and much more granite minerality on the finish. Perhaps a touch less refined, but with commendable intensity, precision, and length. This is good Beaujolais! Rated 92.

These are wines that we do not see. Have you drunk any on this side of the pond?

Sounds like the trip of a lifetime, Nicola!

Stefan : i probably saw the Trapet here, bit none of the other wines. That was the objective, to try wines not available (or i have never seen) in Québec.
Jim : this was surely a great and epic trip, but the trip of a lifetime was more the trip to Bordeaux in 2015, with BWEers!

Is Jolivet the same as in Pouilly Fumé?

I don’t know Alex, but i would bet no.
Domaine Jolivet wines have a good rep for Saint Joseph. From the info on internet, was sending grapes to the coop but when the son Bastien get behind the steer, started in 2014 to make his own wines.
The bottle we had, JeanFred and my brother liked it much more than me. Forbthe info, my bro and JeanFred like Condrieu, i don’t. I don’t like extra ripeness/sweetness in my white wines.
