2005 Domaine de Chevalier Esprit de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Leognan
The second red wine of a property that's more well-known for producing classical whites. From a magnum during a dinner at home. I’ve had my share of dud second wines, from highly classified properties no less, but this 2005 drank as well as some classified first wine in non-glorified vintages. Medium bodied with appropriate extraction. Nice balance with lean ripe fruit. Went very well with assorted Spanish tapas. A well-spent 30 bucks. B+/A-
A 2nd wine from 2005 ... my well-spent 30 bucks.

The second wines of 2009 are similarly very nice - another vintage showing well at the lower and mid level.

$30 for a magnum? Well done. Well done, indeed!

I'm not surprised ... it's the 2nd best vintage of the decade.Claudius2 wrote:Ramon

Tom: I realized soon after that this was not a $30 bottle. I recall that it was for $34.99, hand delivered to me by a good 'ole Dale who purchased at release.Tom In DC wrote:$30 for a magnum? Well done. Well done, indeed!
