TNs: two Loire wines: one bio, one natural.

2008 Sancerre Blanc "Akméniné"; Domaine Sébastien Riffault
minerals, soil, rocks, oyster shell and oyster sauce, stewed apple, pear, strawberry and white peach, lots of earthy notes, almost some grass and hay, leaves, oxidative but fresh and lifted, smoke, bonfire, citrus and cooked lemons, picked lemons, subtle, elegant, soft and subtly long, red currants, deep and complex, tobacco leaf, mushrooms and white truffle. Musk, sand and sea-air. Completely offensive but I love it... Its like old Chenin! Super. Based on my scoring system this should only get a very very low score as it isn't at all typical, but sod that... 72-74+/100 that's how it makes me feel!

Cheverny Rouge "La Caillère"; Clos du Tue-Boeuf
100% Pinot Noir: chili, spice, Sichuan peppercorn, dirty water, wet puddles and fox pee, quite autumnal, lots of cherries, berries and wild strawberry fruit, with hints of soil, mushroom and decaying leaves. Spritzy on lifted on the nose but deep and intriguing on the palate; some bitterness, and lots of freshness and minerals, quite rocky. Some hints of tannins with really good balance. It is great fun and a lovely drink, but it is simply a really lovely wine! Great with rich foods, it creates a nice marriage with slow cooked meats. However, there is pleasing concentration and complexity, you wouldn't leave it more than a year or so but it will develop. It has a je ne sais quoi that keeps one coming back for more despite its simplicity. If anything it reminds me of Burgundy harvests and drinking out of the Vats! 66+/100

Really lovely notes Jono! You've really captured the character of the wines and the producers here I think...

Thanks Chris,

I really did enjoy them a lot.
The Sancerre is spectacularly good and I'm a little bit pleased that it is a wine that offends, as otherwise there would be too much demand and non for me!
