1999 Château Moulin Saint-Georges - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (2/27/2014)
A lovely, balanced, classic weight Bordeaux that delivered fruit, spice, cedar and a gentle tannic spine. This is in a lovely place right now, but with no fear for the future.

In my experience, this producer is a real sleeper in Bordeaux. I had an extraordinary experience with a 1982 Moulin St. Georges that we opened in about 95-96 - we had purchased it in a shop in St. Emilion in 1993 for $12. In short, a fabulous bottle, regardless of what we paid.

This is my kind of Bordeaux, far from the pathetic, over ripe monsters that you can find these days...
I enjoyed the 1999 Moulin Saint-Georges on many occasions, as well as the fantastic 1999 D’Issan. Both typical examples of quintessential elegant and balanced Bordaux.

Isn't it a junior, or poor man's Ausone?
Any Rolland fingerprints on this?

I don't know about Rolland, but the '99 did not taste like a Rolland wine.

Nevertheless, it is a 'Rolland' wine. He is Vauthier's consultant since 1995, but I can hardly believe that he has the final word...
Re: TN: 1999 Moulin St. Georges
That's the problem with stereotyping. Even though many Rolland wines are big and modern, not all Rolland wines taste alike. A tasting at the Rolland lab back in 2005, although billed as an introduction to the "Purple Teeth Club," did show some diversity of style.
