I'm going to be fasting for a while so I thought I'd go out with a bang....

Deep bright purple color, heavy oak on the nose, thick in the mouth on the first sip.

Earphones on, CNN on the screen with sound off, listening to Marvin Gaye, got some Maine oysters and Faroe Island salmon, a perfect match with a young Pauillac....

I thought JimHow and Grand-Puy Lacoste were like Biden and Trump...

Looking forward to your detailled comments, and your possible reconciliation with that great Pauillac.

Jim

Opened a bottle of the 2016 GPL last week. Last purchase of GPL prior to that for me was a case in 2000 which I have been enjoying over the past few years. I believe, in the end, I will prefer the 2016.

Mein gott, mon frere, do I have to break up with you again!? That’s gross. I’d rather pick fly maggots out of Pence’s hair-sprayed head, and eat them, while cranking the stereo-phone to Horst-Wessel-Lied. Just gross. And I thought you h8ted GPL?

It's probably only good with oysters. The oak matches well with the cocktail sauce.

Beautiful picture, except for the law books in the background.

This is a real strong effort from GPL. Strong tannic backbone but everything in balance. Ripe but not overripe or extracted. Rich. Great with the oysters and salmon, really opened up with the whoopie pie. Very Pauillac. Yes, Ag, this is heads and tails over the 2000. Following on the excellent 2014, I haven’t had the 2015, but, as Phil Bernstein told me and Nicola at MacArthur’s, GPL seems to have gotten its act together. I find this a very different animal from the 2009/2010. I have three bottles left that I will double blanquito and drink in my seventies. This seems like an Orlando Robert kind of wine! 95+ points.

Best ever GPL? I think it is and surpasses the 1996, the second best ever, and the 1995, the third best ever, though the 1978 is no slouch. The 2014 is the 1978 reincarnated.

Let's say your honor is safe, as you didn't rated it higher than 2016 Tour Saint Christophe or Sociando Mallet!

For me, GPL have always been and excellent to almost great wine, for a 5th Growth. I think i never had the 1995, but the 1982, 1985, 1986, 1990, 1996 were all excellent. The 2003 (the vintage?) and 2012 (need more time?) were my question marks.

It's great to see GPL achieve its potential, it seems like winemaking malpractice over the past 30 years that its successes were so sporadic.
