A cynic might say that this is just a Trump ploy to take profits when the market is high, then declare tariffs to create a buying opportunity, let phase one kick in (midnight tonight) to show you mean it, then cancel phase two before it takes effect April 9, all in order to make a quick buck on the rebound. A flip of the old pump and dump: a dump and pump. Oh, and get everyone to praise him for being tough but seeing the light and listening to reason in the end. It sounds typically Trumpy to me.

I’m pretty cynical, but I’m not brave enough to put my money where my mouth is. We’ll see what transpires next week.
OK, so he didn’t cancel the tariffs, just put most of them on hold for 3 months. Close enough as far as the market response is concerned.

Any guesses on when the next gyration will occur? Today? A week? A month?

I still plan to go to BWE 25th in Maine this summer, but i’m getting worried if they will let enter a ‘’nasty canadian’’ (especially french) in the country…

JeanFred is going to the Boston marathon next weekend. Looking forward his border reception.

What is scary is that he hasn't even gotten started yet. He's what, not even three months into his term? I predict we won't have midterm elections in 2026 and we will be in full-blown dictatorship by 2028. Who's going to stop him? The Democrats? Lol.

The Supreme Court might try, but the judiciary has no enforcement power.

The military is sworn to uphold the constitution. Would it?

A fair number of hard core MAGA types are gun nuts and prone to taking the law into their own hands. If enough of them lose their jobs because of his policies, some may turn on him and attempt an assassination. Or some on the left may be so maddened by his policies to try it.

I really fear for widespread violence. Horrible to contemplate. Horrible to think that it’s even a remote possibility. But I’m thinking it.

He is trying hard to remain diplomatic.
The local economy incl stock market is getting caught in the crossfire as is the case with Australia.

Wong is a believer in stability, predictability and incremental change - which sounds a bit like the Republicans in past eras.

Singapore unfortunately often gets caught in the middle of battles between China, USA, the EU and just about everywhere else thus political leaders here tread a careful path.

On the other hand I get the CCP controlled media here all the time. Seriously they make Trump look like a moderate.

Agree with Ian. No way I’m visiting the USA any time soon. Same for China. A local friend here has twice had visa applications rejected - she is trying to get to NYC for a relatives graduation. Another Sussie friend was refused entry simply as he went to HK recently.

The planet is one seriously messed up place. I don’t just blame Trump - there are too many corrupted, ignorant and narcissistic jerks everywhere.

Cheers
Mark
