Gazin
The largest producer in Pomerol
Interested in thoughts/experiences? Recent or distant
I have a fair bit of 94 and 97 and they have had mixed reviews, my experience with this estate has been generally good, though mixed
The 04 is supposed to be Gazin at the top of its game

Re: Gazin
I have a 6-pack of the 2004 at my offsite storage, and which I bought blindly. Am curious, too, if others have an impression.
I brought a 2000 at the NYC snowstorm dinner just last December. I bought this lone bottle about 3 years post-release for about $50. I'd probably buy again, only if the same price. Here are my notes from that dinner:
2000 Ch. Gazin, Pomerol
A lean Pomerol, layers of red and black fruit, still very young, but not lacking in structure and complexity. I’ve had a version of this bottle in a tasting in Manila about 3 years ago, and I was more encouraged by this recent one. Some wood notes, but nothing that’s distracting. B+/A-

Re: Gazin
The 1990 Gazin was one of my greatest wine experiences ever.
I also enjoyed the 1994 and 1995 vintages, and the 1998 was stellar.
I'm hoping to get my hands on a case of 2008 Gazin, going for $60-something at Zachy's right now.

Re: Gazin
I am very happy with the '98 Gazin and also like the '95. The '01 is not at the level of these, but is quite a nice wine.
Re: Gazin
Ian,
I'm going to be a pedantic pain in the elbow...
Ch. Gazin has 24 hectares of vines, Ch. de Sales has 47.5.
Gazin is frequently considered "stolid", foursquare, and unexciting.
It has a very earthy, very Pomorol nose and flavor.
Recent vintages have got better and better in tastings I've been to.
You make me want to try a mature bottle soon!
All the best,
Alex

Ian,
Where is the '07 de Sales on sale for $14?
Thanks,

Re: Gazin
Thanks, Ian. Have you tried it? Zachy's is selling 375s for $13. Let me know if you make a run to Pound Ridge.

Obviously for comparisons sake and to say that I don't see it anywhere else...

Re: Gazin
Tried 67 Gazin in Feb this year... Have a case of the 08.
67 was certainly structured, but I thought it very very good.

Re: Gazin
I sampled the 2007 vintage last year at the UGC in NYC. The Pommerols in general had the best lineup at the event. The Gazin was a highlight of the bunch
Re: Gazin
I really liked the '06 at the Chicago Union des Grands tasting in Jan '09. Waiting for some sale pricing before buying though.
Re: Gazin
probably worth seeking out some 2006, best price here in NYC is around $56.00 at Zachys, so the real price should be around $40.00
Re: Gazin
Jim,
1990 Gazin is my favorite vintage and I have one btl left. In 1969 Gazin sold 13.9 acres to Ch Petrus. They do have similar qualities in the best years.
$56.00 for the 2006 is the lowest price nationally on Wine Searcher "Pro Version" . It tops out at around $89 at Vinopolis in Or. Next best price is $61.95 at Abalat in Ca, then it runs up Btl Shop NJ $69.99, Kahns $76.99, Specs in TX $79.77. Gazin 08 and 09 are decent priced and excellent wines to buy. I like the 98 and the 2001 had them both this past year.
