So what have you bought lately?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Today I bought 9 2002 Beaux Freres Shea Pinot Noir @ $36 and (unconfirmed) 4 bottles of 2007 Cristal @ $109. The first is in stock; the other a pre arrival.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I saw the Shea on offer but I am trying to be done buying anything for the rest of the year. Good deal.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
A 7-month moratorium? That would be some kind of record Glenn. Remember when a bunch of us tried to go from Memorial Day to Labor Day without buying anything? We failed miserably.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yes David it would be a record. I have budgeted for 2 small purchases in November so not quite the whole year.
The cellar is full or mature and maturing bottles and I recently stocked up on everyday dinner wines so I am good to go.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I am looking forward to trying my first Beaux Freres Shea. stefanJr also says that it was a good score. Granddaughter Shea is very happy about the purchase. I did get the Cristal, with delivery expected by 2052.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I wonder where the large stash of Beaux Freres came from? the winery?
I've only had a few but the official pricing always seemed ambitious to me, so these prices seem to reflect reality better I think.
Still passed. I think I've said enough about that vendor.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I beg to differ, David. Thanks to a special dispensation from you on a pre-arrival bottle, I limped home with no new purchases that summer. Of course I made up for it and then some in a few short weeks after it ended.DavidG wrote:A 7-month moratorium? That would be some kind of record Glenn. I try to buy nothing now but the siren call of Bacchus cannot be totally ignored. But only a rare modest young bottle or two. No Bordeaux, though.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Well, Stuart, we're both probably getting old enough to have a few gaps in memory.
You are correct that there were some special dispensations, but my recollection is that only the BD was qualified to bestow them. If you made it through with only one pre-arrival bottle and no new purchases, I would have to say that was a resounding success. And that I stand humbled by your self-control.
I received dispensations for a couple of mailing list wines, so I technically "succeeded," but looking back at the dollars I spent that summer I would have to admit to being an abject failure.

Picked up a 6pack of the 2010 Fuligni BdM at $59.99/per (+tax) from Total Wine in Norwalk, CT.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I could not resist 6 bottles of 1995 Bussia Soprana Mosconi Barolo for $9.99 each but I did leave a few on the shelf. Back to the moratorium.DavidG wrote:A 7-month moratorium? I am weak. I am unworthy. I am now awaiting delivery this fall of a 6-pack of 2010 Pichon Baron.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Well done David you can't go wrong. Short term pain for long term gain. In fact you can buy any vintage from Baron since 2000 (the start of the Christian Seely era) with utmost confidence.
I remember the 2003 and 2004 drinking very nicely at the Chateau but that was after a hard day's work and a punishing week.

Great buy.... Well done indeed...DavidG wrote:I am weak. I am unworthy. I am now awaiting delivery this fall of a 6-pack of 2010 Pichon Baron.
If I remember correctly, I rated 09 and 10 Pichon baron ahead of 09 and 10 LB (Lynch). For me, 09 PB is slightly ahead of 09 LB, but 10 PB is way ahead of 10 LB...

Sorry but I've been weak and had to dip into the 2014 futures offer following the recent trip. Will be nice to sip with some fond memories of BWE 2015 tasting barrel samples if if some might be through a straw in a nursing home somewhere or not!!

Re: So what have you bought lately?
You are a true Bordeaux Wine Enthusiast dstgolf, very nicely done indeed.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I am fully back in a Bordeaux buying mode. The last 5 years or so, I was focused on other regions -- especially Italy and older Californian stuff -- as my cellar was almost all claret. But with the 2009/10 vintages, the 1995s starting to show well, and my appreciation of the 1983 and 1985 vintages peaking, I can't get enough Bordeaux. And at this point, I know what I like and what I don't like from the region, so I am focused on backfilling chateau like these:
Canon
Magdelaine
Beychevelle
Grand Puy Lacoste
Calon Segur
Montrose
l'Arrosee
Sociando Mallet
Gloria
du Tertre
Lagune
Cantemerle
Branaire Ducru
l'Evangile
Leoville Barton
the 80's Cordier stable

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Very, very well done indeed Blanquito.
Does anyone know what the deal is at MacArthur's?
They have lots of Bordeaux, Brunello, and Chateauneuf du Pape in which I am interested.
I've got to get down for a quick trip to DC anyway, do they have these wines in stock at their store, or do they have a separate warehouse or something?
Should I order them before I drive down there?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Good going Patrick. I must say that I got tired of drinking Brunello. Nothing ever really got me thrilled and Cali Cabs for the most part are like a mistress. Get you excited once in a while but the one that keeps you coming back over and over is glass after glass of Bordeaux. Like the perfect marriage! Now Nic may feel differently but I'm sure that he'll eventually come around!!!

They do have a storage facility apart from the shop, or did when I shopped there, and yes if the wine is there it takes a day or two notice to bring it over.

Not swill!!! We have a bar here called the lucky lure where the Narragansett is a welcomed site and sell well in the 16oz can...I enjoy them quite a bit....but I do luv the throw back cans, I would luv 2 get my hands on those
Re: So what have you bought lately?
We drank a lot of Narragansett on our honeymoon in Maine... Probably weren't "throwback" cans then...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
"Grab a 'gansett." I assume it's not the original recipe. Hasn't someone licensed the brand and put a microbrew in that can?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Niiiiice day today....
2009 Batailley
1975 Brane-Cantenac (single bottle)
Really fascinated by the Brane. Top shoulder fill. 1975 Brane received like -4 Parker points, but on CT and elswehere I read much better and more recent news. 1975 was a freak vintage and I remember as a child how hot it was that summer, even 450 miles away from where the grapes were born. Thick skins and high yield have killed the vintage for many lesser gods.
2009 Batailley for a good price always is a must-buy. 2009 was freaky good. Guess slightly different style-wise than 1975

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Bought a lone bottle of 78 Conseillante at an auction for 70 bucks...Curious to try this...
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Since my last post I have picked up more 6ers of some 2010 Italians in the 2010 la Serena BdM for $43.99/per from Suburban Wine and Spirits, the 2010 Il Poggione BdM for $56.50/per from Wine Connection and the 2010 Felsina Rancia Chianti Classico Reserva for $34.99/per from Total Wine in Norwalk CT.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Rancia CCR is one of the great values from anywhere, year in and year out.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
That's a pretty good price on the Rancia bottling. Don't think I've seen it that low in my neck of the woods.
I put some 2010 away in larger formats for the munchkins.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
My problem is that ... One of the problems that I have is that when I see something offered at a particular price whether via an email blast or finding something on a retailers website, is that when the price is too good to pass up I usually jump and while it doesn't always work out sometimes it does. While shopping on the WineWise website (store in Greenwich CT) I came across mags of the 2010 Silver Oak Napa for $109.99 so I ordered 6 (seemingly a mistake but they honored it), followed by the 2009 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc for $67.99 and ordered a case (also on the cheap) and then found the 2010 Vietti Castiglione for $35.69 and ordered a 6pack (less than front line cost for something I missed out on) all of which I picked up today. And to top it off I then ordered 7 lonely btls of the 2005 Haut Bailly for $105/per from Max at the Wine Connection yesterday. An expensive week for me.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I don't think that Silver Oak price is anything special -- it's $55 in California grocery store chains for a 750ml.
Seems like an odd wine to buy given the other items you mention....

I was wondering the same thing.
Is that some sort of special bottling jckba?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Silver Oak makes two bottlings; the Alexander Valley bottling which runs $55-$70 and the Napa Valley bottling which runs $85-$100, and these were mags of the later for $110.
