Re: So what have you bought lately?
Marc those prices exclude buyers commission and tax on that which together amounts to 15% - so all prices x 1.15
Re: So what have you bought lately?
3 bottles of 2006 Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart for $100 each.
I’ve not had this cuvée before but it gets rave reviews and $100 is the cheapest price on the planet, so I took a flier.
If anyone else is interested, I got these at K&L where a “limited amount” is available via “special order” and “available within 7 days.” This is the first time I’ve seen this at K&L, so I’m not sure what it means and how much is really available. But seeing that the next cheapest in the country is $130, these will probably go fast.

Re: So what have you bought lately?

Any word on how the 2016 St. innocent Momtazi vintage is, CV, Stefan et al?
It's time for me to get more St. Innocent in my cellar.

If not Momtazi, I thought stefan had some 16 st innocent. IIRC, he had good things to say, but will let stefan say in detail.JimHow wrote:Any word on how the 2016 St. innocent Momtazi vintage is, CV, Stefan et al?

There was only one bottle of 2016 st innocent Momtazi, so I just snagged it in auction, for $37 all in. But haven’t received it yet. But I will be looking to hoard more, as I like st innocent’s Momtazi very much...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Is the Willamette Valley like Argentina, it doesn't really matter what the vintage is?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
It is very good, Jim. It has not yet developed the Momtazi dustiness, but, like the other SI 2016s, it is fine for drinking now even if I will prefer it in ten years. Maybe the 2016s will not shut down, in which case I will have a hard time holding many for drinking in ten years. I only bought 6 cases for Texas plus whatever I have in Oregon.
Vintage does matter in the Willamette Valley, btw.

Six cases... just for the Texas house...
This is why the man is the legend of BWE.
I'm about to pull the trigger on some.
You liked the Justice as well, no?

6 cases... my jaw dropped... it reminded me of that essay you wrote about padre stefan as an exorcist trying to get rid off the Burgundy devil in you... Yep, the legend of stefan continues, rain or shine...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yeah we were trying to find that the other day, we thought Marcus had it but all that stuff from "the first BWE site" appears to be gone forever.
Blanquito thinks it can be accessed but I'm not so sure....
There is some legendary stuff in those lost BWE archives.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I hope someone can locate the BWE archives.
These days we very often eat lighter foods that that go better with Pinot Noir than with Bordeaux. Also I do not like young Bordeaux very much, even Cru Bourgeois, and my supply of older Bordeaux in Texas has gotten smaller because most of what I buy now at auctions is destined to go to Oregon. OTOH, I like young PN, especially those from SI and other Oregon producers. Finally, the QPR of OR PN at the level I drink is much better than that of comparable Bordeaux. For all these reasons I drink more OR PN than Bordeaux even if I continue to be Bordeaux centric.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Stefan, how do you compare 2016 St. Innocent wines to the 2015 vintage. I am seeing some decent pricing on the 2015s, but not a lot of availability yet on 2016.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Jon, the 2015s have closed a bit, but they are also good. My preference is for 2016, and I like 2014 a bit more than 2016 so far. All three are good vintages and similar, reflecting the similar weather, I think. Others will no doubt rank the vintages differently and I might well change my mind down the road.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I have copied all of the raw page files, you can look at the raw text and see the content mixed in with all of the html code and whatnot. All we need is someone to compile the data and write the software to interface with it and make it readable in a browser. My bro could do this, but never will unless we kidnap him and force feed him 82 bordeaux until the job is done.JimHow wrote:Yeah we were trying to find that the other day, we thought Marcus had it but all that stuff from "the first BWE site" appears to be gone forever.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Good question, I think it was:
http//www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.msn.com
I would be paying something to have it done, but not some large amount.

You are correct Jacques.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I found an old email I had sent to Arv in December 2006 with a link to the forum. It was fun to remember an old dinner at Afghan Kebab House II with some Bordeaux. I think it was also the first time I met Ian.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
If you are adding commission and converting the dollars into pounds, multiply by 1.43.marcs wrote:Those are excellent prices! Do they include the auction house fee / are they all-in prices? E.g. the low retail price for the 2015 Jadot Echezeaux is $220/bottle in the U.S. right now, implying an all-in price of like 1100 pounds for a half a case, you paid like 40% of that!Comte Flaneur wrote:I had a good day at auction today even though demand was much stronger than I expected - I think a lot of non UK bidders came in given the weakness of the pound. There were people bidding from Hong Kong for example. Just as well, otherwise it would have been carnage. All prices GBP:
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 88 (Clos De La Coulee Serrant 2003 Nicolas Joly 5 bts) for 200! That was my priority target, one of the few monopoles
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 153 (Chateau Latour Haut Brion 2005 1 bt) for 90! The last ever vintage of LTHB so a good souvenir - and HB and LTHB were allegedly sensational in 2005.
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 251 (Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 Louis Jadot 6 bts OWC IN BOND) for 450! That was not on my hit list but the estimate was £600-700
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 252 (Fine Red Burgundy Including Rapet, Bachelet And Vauisoey 12 bts) for 320!
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 287 (Pommard Les Rugiens 2010 Domaine Drouhin 2 bts) for 95!
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 302 (Cote Rotie La Peroline 2005 Levet 11 bts) for 380! This was one of many lots sold by a celebrity journalist which means it is more likely for other reasons than this being a lemon (Ref: George Akerlof, the market for lemons).
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 306 (Fine Northern Rhone Inc Cornas, Hermitage, Cote Rotie 12 bts) for 380! Included Voges, Clusel Roch, Chapoutier, Guigal, Jaboulet, Bernard Guy, Delas, Faurie.
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 317 (Chateauneuf Du Pape 2005 Cuvee Des Felix Domaine Bois De Boursan 12 bts OCC) for 300! Been on the look out for this my favourite reasonably priced Chateauneuf
Congratulations! You have just bought lot 397 (BBR Old Block Chenin 2016 12 bts) for 140! An every day drinker and am a big fan of SA Chenin
Prices are still good, and the Jadot is a great buy. I assume, Ian, you have to pay VAT on those prices including the VIG.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Mark
The only one which was ‘in bond’ was the Jadot Echezeaux 2015. If I had taken it out of bond I I would have had to pay duty, which works out at just over £2 a bottle and VAT at 20%. I sent them to my storage and kept them in bond, which keeps them liquid and therefore easy to sell if I wanted. It was not in my hit list partly because it was ‘ib’ but at that price for that wine in that vintage I couldn’t resist.
Everything else I just had to pay commission on at 12.5% plus VAT which comes to 15%. But no duty or VAT on the bottles. The only other expense was delivery.

Marcus, nothing nuts in that listing. If you have bought a bunch of 59 and 61 Bordeaux, probably fake, that would be nuts.marcs wrote:Embarrassed to admit that I have been going a little nuts:

Myself, bought a few
2019 Bonny Doon rosé
2018 Argo Langhe Nebbiolo from Villadoria
2017 Bourgogne from Agnès Paquet
By the way, i love Agnès Paquet wines. Very small producer but very Côtes de Beaune.

I snagged 4 bottles of 2000 Magdelaine a while back based on Robert's strong recommendations. I’ve opened 2 so far, both at DC BWE events. Holding the other 2 in anticipation of increasing complexity.OrlandoRobert wrote:Ha, good stuff! I somehow scored 15 bottles of that 2000! Give them more time.
