Here "Les Amoureuses"is now the same price as the second best Grands Crus, being more expensive than Corton or Bonnes Mares!

The talk about white Bourgogne motivated me:

2 x 2017 Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vergers
2 x 2017 Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes

And

1 x 2017 Glantenay Volnay 1er Cru Santenots

My weakness for lower-level Burgundy grand crus at sub-$100 prices got me again, and I picked up six bottles of 2010 Drouhin-Laroze Clos Vougeot at $90/bottle. Drouhin-Laroze has great old vine holdings, and 2010 is a great vintage, but they have been a bit hit and miss quality wise as a producer. Gotta start having more discipline about that...

At an SI package sale, I bought 6 more St Innocent 2016 Temperance Hill PN and 6 St Innocent 2017 Temperance Hill PN. I have not tasted the 2017.

All I've bought in the last few weeks in more NV Champagne - this time Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve Exclusive Brut.
Given the Champenois are suffering a collapse in sales volume, I am just trying to keep them afloat for a while longer......

Anyway, this is a lighter, fresher style, with good minerality and acidity, typical lemon/grapefruit flavours, some yeast and brioche, long dryish finish.
I think this producer has improved in recent years (maybe along with the labels and branding).
It cost about USD31 or E26 here in Singapore by 6 bottle case.

So as part of my buying binge earlier this year I actually won some lots at an HDH auction. Shows you how out of hand things got LOL. Now I see something which I bought a full case of offered by HDH retail for $10/bottle less than I bought it for at auction. That really bugs me. I used to laugh at people like me. OK, just wanted to share with you all.

I’ll make you feel better marcs, I was shopping in a local store recently where I’ve gotten a number of good buys on both bourbons and wine over the years and they didn’t really have anything of interest but I generally feel sort of bad for entering and exiting a store without buying anything. So I noticed that they had wrapped bottles of what was purported to be the 100 point 2016 Sassicaia as per the shelf talker for $225/btl so I grabbed a bottle and went to the register, told the register boy not to unwrap the wrapper as this was a collectible, got wrung up and paid the $245 after tax and was glowing exiting the store ... that is until I got home and read the receipt and saw that it stated 2017 and then proceeded to rip off the wrapping and felt my anger rise. The moral of the story is to always check before you buy.

Candidly, I don't think that was an accident. There should have been a real price differential, if even the Guidalberto is a cue, which the 17 is being given away out here for $20.

Probably not and I’ll take this experience as a lesson learned especially since I have access to the 2017 at cost while still readily available via Jersey wholesale.

And between, not sure what kind of pricing you get out west but Guidalberto is $37/btl frontline here on the East Coast and Le Difese (the 3rd label) ain’t that far behind so unless those are 1/2 bottles, I would be snapping those up as I happen to love Guidalberto with a couple of years age on it.

I haven't really cared for La Difese the times I've had it. I picked up a Guidalberto to see if I like it any better.

===

A replacement shipment that was sent to me just arrived this afternoon, after the shipper lost the first one. This was supposed to be held til the heat wave was over....but everything with this has been jinxed. I'm not sure I've seen a package as cooked as this in the last twenty years, when my doorman once left a few bottles of mine in the literal steam pipe closet during a crazy Xmas season. This is seeping, literally hot to the touch, surprised the bubbly corks didn't explode.

Good catch Marcus. Probably all ready to enjoy too, and for more years. I wish we could find that kind of deal in Québec, but no. An example? Our monopoly alcohol store brought back the two 2016 Pichon on their listing, for 327 and 445 $cad (252 and 342 $usd) each a bottle!

I figure they should all be at or around peak for the next five years or so, but will try the Bon Pasteur and Clinet first...the Figeac and Clos l'Eglise should be able to go longer I think.

Great buy Marcus. I eyeballed that one but didn't do the math quickly enough. Worth it.

I don't like HDH, people really jack the prices up and takes up too much of my time for nothing. I also don't like that I didn't pull the trigger on the 78/86/88/96 VCC sampler for 135 a bottle all in. That would have been a fun one.

I cannot remember exactly when it happened but that Clos l'Eglise vintage has to be right around the time when there was some radical change at the property, and there is a big difference in quality/prices before and after. That nuance may have gotten lost over the years.

Once I remember looking at some 95 Clos l'Eglise, and after realizing that, taking a pass.

You picked up some classy right banks!

I think Madame Garcin bought Clos L'Eglise in 1997 and the 1998 was either the first or second vintage after the shift...it has good reviews all around.

The Figeac is the biggest prize of that haul but the Clinet and Bon Pasteur will be nice drinkers too.

Sharp pricing on those Ulysse-Collin champers and especially so since they are in Canadian dollars as that makes them roughly 1/2 the price they are here in the states!

Yeah, those prices are very good. That wine shop had a summer sale this weekend and the Ulysse Collin are on clearance sale. Even at regular prices, they are still good.
