Re: So what have you bought lately?
Thanks, Ian. Needed some whites for the coming summer (although it's currently snowing in Denver!)... a few reds slipped into the order.
Much of this ITNOS stuff, as I haven't had any Pouilly-Fuissé in like 25 years, but Gilman and William Kelly are quite high on this region (and these specific wines) as a (much cheaper) alternative to White Burgundy. So I am eager to try these.

I'm envious of the Sterling Reserves you picked up. Those are from Rick Forman's days at Sterling and are incredible wines. One of my most my most memorable cab face-off's was the 73' Sterling Rsv vs. the 73' Mayacamas. Both were spot on and, dare I say it, was as great as any Bordeaux tasting.Blanquito wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 9:38 pm 4 cases are en route from California, arriving tomorrow:

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yes, Gerry! I've never had a Forman-era Sterling and I have been losing out on them for years at auction, but I finally won a few lots (and the 73 is my brother's birth year). Eager to let these get a few weeks to settle. Pretty good looking fills too, given the ages...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Blanquito, did the university declare a large bonus for faculty? Or is this pent up demand from your earlier buying freeze?

(And because I’ve heard it somewhere recently that ‘cash is trash’).
((And this only qualifies as recent if you include all purchases since my last shipment in early November).
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I like your concept of how to do a buying freeze, Patrick.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yeah so how does that work, it’s not a purchase until it’s delivered?
Picked up a couple of OCC 6packs of the 2016 Salvioni BdM and OWC 6packs and a mag of the 2016 Cerbaiona BdM and a 6pack of 2016 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
It’s close to a bi-annual purchasing summary, I guess. The sad (or happy) fact is that “only” 4 cases over almost 6 months reflects genuine restraint on my part, at least compared to the long term trend!

I second that as you can’t really go wrong with those 2014’s and 2019’s at those prices.Dandersson wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 6:17 pm Some nice wines you got there JoelD, who can blame you!

Dandersson, i 'll be interested in your comments on the 2017 Lilian Ladouys. The 2016 is excellent, and from my limited experience with some other reasonably piced 2017, the 2017 Lilian Ladouys should be very interesting.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Nic,
The 2017 Lilian Ladouys is another very good wine from this estate. I have enjoyed the resent years (2014-2017) very much. I preferred it to the 17 Capbern but the Ormes de Pez 17 had an edge over Ch Lilian Ladouys.

Wow! You guys are amazing men.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Supposedly not, wine.com said that they don't charge the tariff's no matter what. Although I was not able to get as firm of an answer in writing as I was from total wine concierge. However, at these prices. I could pay 25% tariffs and that would just put them at current retail. So thats worst case scenario probably.AKR wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 3:56 pmNice prices, I'm assuming you're wearing tariff risk on the 2019's?JoelD wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 5:43 pm I swear that I really am trying to quit buying wine. Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yes at those prices, its a good risk, even if tariffs happen. I doubt WDC accounting could even handle this properly anyways.JoelD wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 5:31 pmSupposedly not, wine.com said that they don't charge the tariff's no matter what. 4 bottles of mixed inexpensive rosé. The forecast here is snow on Wednesday. Maybe i should have bought some warming 15.5 % alcohol Chateauneuf du Pape instead!

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Holy shit, amazing prices, particularly on the 2014 Cos which I got at like $110 on release/futures. 2014 Meyney also much lower than the $35 a bottle I paid at release, although the absolute savings is less.JoelD wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 5:43 pm I swear that I really am trying to quit buying wine. Re: So what have you bought lately?
Those look like awfully good prices based on others I've seen. Is wine.com pricing consistently very good, or is it just occasional promotions? And how is their service? I saw ratings somewhere that showed them not being rated very high (actually pretty poorly).
Re: So what have you bought lately?
6 bottles of the 2014 Stony Hill Chardonnay for $42.45 per.
Had the 2011 Stony Hill last night with the 82 Talbot, and it was pretty scintillating. It was my first Stony Hill, but I have long enjoyed reading tasting notes on 30 year versions of this chard. The 2011 was still quite young, and didn't really say chardonnay per se, but I loved it.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
The base pricing is terrible. However there are crazy discounts available if you figure out the formula. Theres a whole berseker thread about it. There are coupons that give you 50 off 150. Then there are Cashback through 3rd parties like retailmenot and rakuten for between 10-20%. Then you can get another 6-10% off buying gift cards. It sounds like a hassle but it's not that hard. Total discount tends to come to around 40% off of the list price, after tax.JCNorthway wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 5:24 pm Those look like awfully good prices based on others I've seen. Feel free to PM if you want a walk through.
It doesn't work for people wanting to order whole cases of wine. Unless they're very cheap. But perfect for 1-3 bottles per order usually.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I'll be interested to read your experience with this having read some mixed reviews. NH has this for the same price on sale.Blanquito wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 3:26 pm 6 bottles of the 2014 Stony Hill Chardonnay for $42.45 per.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
If the 2014 is anything like the 2011, I highly recommend you try a bottle Gerry. Both Ted and I loved that 2011, and FWIW Gilman is quite high on the 2014.
