So what have you bought lately?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Love the 2016 St innocent PN. Tonight we are drinking 2016 Zenith. I think it would pair better than the Momtazi with oysters.

Under the strong influence of Gerry M comments:
3 bottles of the 2018 Ridge Geyserville. One will be opened tonight!

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Picked up a trial bottle of the 2020 Thibaud Boudignon Rose de Loire to see if it merits a larger purchase.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
On the fence about if I want to try one of these. I can get the 08 right now which Gilman rated a 94. Any worry about how long these live?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Nicely done Ian and it looks like we will both be enjoying the elixirs of 2016 Piedmont and 2016 Bdx well into our golden years.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I'm starting to buy the wines for my son's wedding in the fall. For the rehearsal dinner they asked for catered pizza to keep things casual. I picked up a case of 2016 Tasca Grillo, a Sicillian white and a case of 2016 Querceto Chianti Classico Reserva. Now it's on to the reception wines and I don't think I'll get away nearly as cheaply, lol

Congratulations, Gerry. I'll be at a family wedding in Philadelphia in about three weeks.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Thks Jim, we're really looking forward to it. He's a lucky guy, she's a great girl and a wine drinker. I've been working on cultivating her tastes over the last couple years, lol.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Wow, Ian! That is quite a nice haul on the 2016 Produttoris. With the hype that 2016 has received, I might be getting priced out of the market for those wines. But they are sure to be fabulous in 15-20 years (before if you wish). I still have a few 2004s remaining. I drank most of them too soon because the last one I had (Pora, I think) was the best one yet.6 bottles each of the 9 Produttori Del Barbaresco 2016s Crus - Asili, Montefico, Montestefano, Muncagota, Ovello, Paje, Pora, Rabaja, Rio Sordo

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I just got an offer from Saratoga Wine for a Fantastic New Value Bordeaux, at Pre-Tariff pricing.
Its the 2018 Ch Martinet St. Emilion. Not something I'm likely to buy but its the first time I've seen post tariff advertising.

2015 Grand Mayne $42.00. An impulse buy at Costco. Yes it's a Rolland influenced wine but I have friends who like full bodied wines.

These a reputed to last and improve for decades. If well stored, I wouldn't worry about an 08 being over the hill at all. If anything, my 2011 needed time.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I have a good stash of 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Produttori Riservas, and I am not touching them yet as each time I do get to try one from this period, they seem just too young to me. Some are really austere still at age 15. I plan to wait until they are at least 20.JCNorthway wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 8:50 pmWow, Ian! That is quite a nice haul on the 2016 Produttoris. Re: So what have you bought lately?
I opened a bottle a year and a half ago and I did not thought it was so big or glossy. It was a very good Saint Émilion, semi-modern, but quite good. I had it on the beach and it was perfect!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I just grabbed some 2019 St Aubins on prearrival, 3 each from Hubert Lamy Les Frionnes and Marc Colin La Chatenière.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I too grabbed 3 btls of a pair of 2019 St Aubin 1er Crus from Hubert Lamy in the ‘En Remilly’ @ $65/per and ‘Derrière chez Edouard’ @ $53/per.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I have a good friend that buys in quantity for a local Burgundy group and he has a good relationship with Patrick Albrecht (of Skyliner Fine Wines) so when it is something of interest, I tack on a few things. And I did make a mistake in my prior post above, these were 2018’s not the 2019’s.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Another case of 2014 Chateau Lanessan at $20 per.
And insanely great wine value for classic board to drinkers. Remember that Lanessan brought in Bouard in 2015, so the style has changed on this wine.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Oh ho ho, since about 2004 I have been singing the praises of 2002, it may be one of my top three vintages ever, on the left bank... neck and neck with 2014, and, um, ‘16, I guess...

I predict that not a single person on, what’s that other site , winedildoserkers, or cellardildoes, or whatever they call themselves in their allknowingness, thinks that 2002 left bank is a great vintage... and I love that... it is a displayance of their ignorance.

What sayeth BobbyG? I’m guessing 2001. We both love that vintage. I’m his idol.

Well done, IanJ, very well done indeed!
Sipping on a 2012 Canon tonight, I'm trying to convince myself that I like it.

2012 Chateau Canon: i think this is what we tasted at the Chateau in 2015, and it was all soil, stone and calcareous, missing a bit of fruit, but mineral like no other.
Or was it the 2006 or 2008?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I get Chapoutier's offers to his French clients (the mail is in French) and its crazy how much vig the US importers/distribuers slaps on his wines.
Petit Ruche in Paris is like $15, over here a lot more.
(I was looking at buying some too)
They really hammer it on Meysonniers, and the single vineyard Crozes like Les Varonniers.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yes wines from the N Rhone valley in general is more expensive here than in my other home country with massive tax and monopoly.
Especially Chapoutier's offerings. Les Varonniers was great when I had it back in 2009, but I doubt I will pay $100 for it.
Petite Ruche is a much smaller wine but fruity and typically Rhone Syrah flavors, ready to drink, under $30 so I went for it.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
What was crazy was that I seem to remember buying wine in Stockholm, and I could swear that Ridge was the same price there as here (at least by mail order, sometimes our grocery stores have Ridge promos). I tried explaining to the Alkoblodget clerk (even showing my passport) that I was exempt from the VAT but, in her greed, she swatted me down.
I skulked off with some overpriced Chianti.
