3.14 are the first three digits of pi. And this wine comes from the Cote du Py.

Ahh, Cote du Py… of course.

As an Rπ grad, I am more familiar with the digits than I ought to be. The freshman engineering students/geeks used to show off how many digits they could recite from memory. Irrational as that sounds…

Well done, CV.
We were once served a corked 1989 Olivier at dinner on a vacation in Curacao in the mid-1990s.

I have encountered the best lower cost reds I've ever had. 2018 and 2019 Chateau Dalem, Fronsac. 19 has the edge. 100% merlot. Under 30$
Thanks for bringing that ‘19 Dalem to DC, Harry, it is definitely a wine I’ll look out for, it is something I will drink now with steak and not worry about aging. Rich and sultry, 15% alcohol but what isn’t these days.

Filled on an 82 Rauzan Segla for $99 earlier today off Ben’s email though I kind of feel like it just may have been missing a digit.
A few more 2016 Margaux’s at close to original wholesale pricing but the picking is getting slim

12 x 2016 PLL (wish I would have loaded more at the price point I snagged it at)
12 x 2014 La Conseillante
6 x 2016 d’Issan

Is it me, or is pricing really starting to kick into a higher gear? Even in spite of USD strength and weakness in risk assets, I am saddened that there aren’t more deals to be had on back vintages of some of my favorites :(

I agree Jim.
And I’m wondering about supply chain issues.
It sure seems like the 2019s continue to be running late.
And New Hampshire has like no champagne in its stores, which seems very bizarre to me. They usually have a ton of champagne, especially wines like Dom Perignon, Pol Roger, etc.

Similar observations here in the middle of flyover country as well ;) its been a mixed bag on the 2019’s. I’ve seen a few land earlier this year but that’s about it….still waiting on a lot.

Blanquito wrote: Tue Oct 18, 2022 2:47 am One more data point— I recently opened the first of a case of the 2019 Zaccharie from our Zachy’s steal, and I was super impressed. I haven’t ever had this cuvée before and I have very limited experience aging Beaujolais in general, but that ‘19 was really singing from the word ‘go’. Its intensity, depth and harmony, especially of the the fruit, was such a delight, and this cuvée did seem to possess an extra gear over Thivin’s other bottlings. And if it can/should get better with some bottle age? Man, look out.
So great to have Blanquito back. He put to words what I was thinking but clearly didn't convey. My main reasoning for DavidG to try one of the 2020 was to see what he thought about the style and how it was young. I definitely think it will improve from the bottle I tried last year.

As much as I love this wine (and have only tried it young), I think I may actually prefer the Roilette Tardive (while also young, but could probably use more time). When factoring for current prices on the two, it's really a no brainer for me. I have not tried the Griffe yet but did pick up a few 2014's to try some back vintage.
Forgot about posting on this. I very much liked the 2020 Thivin Cuvée Zaccharie. My note: Dark red. Cherry, loamy earth, meaty notes, bit of oak. Medium body, good balance, bright ripe fruit, medium finish. Bigger than a typical Brouilly. Excellent.

I imagine they’re cheaper over there than here.

At this point, is the 89 PLL the strongest Comtesse standing from the 80’s? I ask having had an 85 last night which was lovely but a far cry from recent bottles of the 89. With all the talk of the 82 and 83 fading into retirement and the inconsistency of the 86, the 89 is looking good.

For those who are buying the 89 Pichon Lalande, I feel - as well regarded as it was in its first few decades -- that it was not fully understood. What a remarkable decade they had in the 80's. I know many of you have had it a dozen plus times, so it's not a secret or anything.

Curious what the '89 Pichon Lalande is going for these days.
Is it in the range of the '89 Lynch that seems to be going for upwards of $475?

If you look hard, you can find the 89 PLL for just over $200. My recent bottles were $196 including the buyers commission (but not sales tax).

What patrick said, I've picked up some really quality bottles between 195-235 all in, over the last 3-4 months. Inconsistent but they pop up. 275 or so seems to be the steady rate.
