2020 Thivin Zacccharie. Found a single bottle at a local Ocean City watering hole. Had to try it based on all the positive reviews here, but seemed ridiculously overpriced at $63.

Is this ready to go or do I need to hold it?

The 2019 was quite accessible a year ago. Young with lots of fruit but great structure to back it. I don't think theres any harm in killing it. Although beaujolais is one of the few wines that I tend to prefer younger.

Speaking of, I grabbed a few 2013/2014 Roilette Tardive and Griffe du Marquis. Loved the 2018 so I'm looking forward to tryin a few with some age.

Contrary to Joel, I think you are better off holding for a couple of years as I find the regular Cote de Brouilly drinks better in those initial few years post release and the single vineyards almost demand more time to come into their own.

Hmm, they had a bunch of the regular for ~$35. Didn’t look like anywhere near a bargain so I passed. Curiousity got the better of me on the Zaccharie. I’m used to drinking Bojo on release or within a year or two. I can put this one away for a while. No stranger to delayed gratification.

One more data point— I recently opened the first of a case of the 2019 Zaccharie from our Zachy’s steal, and I was super impressed. I haven’t ever had this cuvée before and I have very limited experience aging Beaujolais in general, but that ‘19 was really singing from the word ‘go’. Its intensity, depth and harmony, especially of the the fruit, was such a delight, and this cuvée did seem to possess an extra gear over Thivin’s other bottlings. And if it can/should get better with some bottle age? Man, look out.

So great to have Blanquito back. He put to words what I was thinking but clearly didn't convey. My main reasoning for DavidG to try one of the 2020 was to see what he thought about the style and how it was young. I definitely think it will improve from the bottle I tried last year.

As much as I love this wine (and have only tried it young), I think I may actually prefer the Roilette Tardive (while also young, but could probably use more time). When factoring for current prices on the two, it's really a no brainer for me. I have not tried the Griffe yet but did pick up a few 2014's to try some back vintage.

I have only 3 in total and yet to crack one. Seems like a BWE 2023 wine. Maybe that could be the 25 year, 1998 right bank retrospective since many aren't fans of the 2003 vintage.

These were pricey, what I (anachronistically, admittedly) consider First Growth pricing: $251/each, all-in at K&L.

But since I essentially consider VCC a Right Bank First Growth and 98 is such a terrific merlot vintage (borderline legendary at this point), and these 3 bottles looked pristine, I went for it. I actually expected to get outbid, as I paid only the reserve price/initial bid.

A think a 1998 Right Bank 25-year Retrospective is a great idea for a 2023 Convention. In addition to these VCC, I have the 98 Figeac, Magdelaine, Canon, Peby-Faugeres and Grand Mayne (a BWE insider’s wine).
