Taking advantage of the collapsing pound; mind you would prefer to be buying with US Dollars rather than Euro

2*L'Eglise Clinet 2016 - £240 / €270
2 Canon 2018 - £108 / €121

Love old Canon, love new Canon equally and thus, $1540 well spent.

Thanks to a sale, picked up one mag of ’16 Gruaud Larose for ~$110, and one mag of ’08 Philipponnat Clos de Goises Extra Brut for ~$275. We’ll see if they make it down to DC later this month…

Cavallotto Langhe Freisa 2017 x 2.

Tried a bottle of this randomly a few months ago and was quite impressed. The retailer had supposedly sold out but unexpectedly found 2 out the back, so just snapped them up.

Went to a Spanish/French Grenache tasting which didn't particularly impress but did pick 1x Duhart Milon 2018 which was on sale.

2020 Thivin Zacccharie. Found a single bottle at a local Ocean City watering hole. Had to try it based on all the positive reviews here, but seemed ridiculously overpriced at $63.

Is this ready to go or do I need to hold it?

The 2019 was quite accessible a year ago. Young with lots of fruit but great structure to back it. I don't think theres any harm in killing it. Although beaujolais is one of the few wines that I tend to prefer younger.

Speaking of, I grabbed a few 2013/2014 Roilette Tardive and Griffe du Marquis. Loved the 2018 so I'm looking forward to tryin a few with some age.

Contrary to Joel, I think you are better off holding for a couple of years as I find the regular Cote de Brouilly drinks better in those initial few years post release and the single vineyards almost demand more time to come into their own.

Hmm, they had a bunch of the regular for ~$35. Didn’t look like anywhere near a bargain so I passed. Curiousity got the better of me on the Zaccharie. I’m used to drinking Bojo on release or within a year or two. I can put this one away for a while. No stranger to delayed gratification.

One more data point— I recently opened the first of a case of the 2019 Zaccharie from our Zachy’s steal, and I was super impressed. I haven’t ever had this cuvée before and I have very limited experience aging Beaujolais in general, but that ‘19 was really singing from the word ‘go’. Its intensity, depth and harmony, especially of the the fruit, was such a delight, and this cuvée did seem to possess an extra gear over Thivin’s other bottlings. And if it can/should get better with some bottle age? Man, look out.

So great to have Blanquito back. He put to words what I was thinking but clearly didn't convey. My main reasoning for DavidG to try one of the 2020 was to see what he thought about the style and how it was young. I definitely think it will improve from the bottle I tried last year.

As much as I love this wine (and have only tried it young), I think I may actually prefer the Roilette Tardive (while also young, but could probably use more time). When factoring for current prices on the two, it's really a no brainer for me. I have not tried the Griffe yet but did pick up a few 2014's to try some back vintage.

Shipping is basically impossible for most of us, but K&L still ships to DC and has the flagship 2019 Roilette Griffe du Marquis for $33
https://m.klwines.com/p/i?i=1560816&sea ... archRank=0

I’ve only had the Roilette normale (very good), but every bojo palate I listen to (including Joel’s) raves about this producer.

I've been staring at those 2019's for a while, Patrick. Good call.

If anyone in the DC area has interest in splitting up a case, I would likely be down. I usually get my wine shipping in temp controlled transit from KL and other Napa area retailers. Takes longer but is a bit cheaper and obviously better for the wine.

Joel texted you re that Roilette

So on the bought lately front, 6*2014 and 6*2016 Chateau Montrose at $156/bottle all in. Joel tells me I overpaid a bit but he is the coupon master and I’m ok with the price

Thinking it’s time to stop again now for sure. With the world economy about to crash there will be better deals in the future

Marcus is order 8 bottles for us to split up between the two of us. However if you want to order, I'd take 2-4 more. Just let me know. Or I can place the order, I just don't think I need another 6 bottles before trying it.

10 x 2015 Chateau Figeac @ $162.54, I’ve been waiting forever for these to go on sale. We should be able to get Bordeaux on sale this month, Gerry, hopefully more 2019s will arrive, the bigger names seem to be trickling in. I picked up a couple 2019 du Tertre to get to my mixed case discount.

Well done sir. KL auctions? Price?

I have only 3 in total and yet to crack one. Seems like a BWE 2023 wine. Maybe that could be the 25 year, 1998 right bank retrospective since many aren't fans of the 2003 vintage.

These were pricey, what I (anachronistically, admittedly) consider First Growth pricing: $251/each, all-in at K&L.

But since I essentially consider VCC a Right Bank First Growth and 98 is such a terrific merlot vintage (borderline legendary at this point), and these 3 bottles looked pristine, I went for it. I actually expected to get outbid, as I paid only the reserve price/initial bid.

A think a 1998 Right Bank 25-year Retrospective is a great idea for a 2023 Convention. In addition to these VCC, I have the 98 Figeac, Magdelaine, Canon, Peby-Faugeres and Grand Mayne (a BWE insider’s wine).

Winona Chief was kind enough to leave me a 1998 VCC at my house when he visited this summer, I will drink with a BWEer on the back deck at some point in the future before retiring to the great tasting room in the sky.

I think thats a great price these days, Patrick. My 3 bottles probably average around that or slightly below and they were all bought before last years boom. I would love to open a 98 VCC vs a 98 Figeac sometime.
