2008 Chateau Ausone, St Emilion
I remain enthralled with this classic vintage, and this Ausone, easily the best wine from the vintage that I have had. In a line-up of wines across an interesting spectrum, the class and impeccable balance of this wine shines through. Gorgeously fragrant perfume of briary red fruits, dry earth, crushed rocks, spice and some florals. Silky palate with a range of red to dark fruits that caress the palate with medium weight and a soft graceful texture. Still showing some tannins and structure, still needing 5+ years for optimal drinking, but oh is this so damn good. Eclipses the 2015 Ausone I had recently, and makes the 2015 Figeac that followed seem so garish.
97 pts.

Thank you for that report Orlando Bobby.
As i have a few different 2008, it's interesting and encouraging to see that the 2008 Ausone it already giving that much, as Ausone is normaly ankward and needs time.

I should have said, this wine was opened the day before. It could use more time but is starting to approach a stage where I would not have an issue popping one.

This sounds really tasty. I don't splurge on Ausone(For those rates I prefer a good first growth or maybe Pomerol) but have been keeping an eye out for back vintage deals. The 1990 that Stefan brought to BWE 2020 was insane. Probably WOTN for me.
I wonder how the 2014 Figeac is, vintage save it like La Conseillante?
Also is that Iberico in the background?

Sure it is, a classic like this in a structured vintage.
But if a friend chooses to pop it, I’m definitely drinking it, LOL. I would wait a minimum of five or more years if I owned this bottle. Actually I do on this bottle. I’m not touching it yet.
