Has anyone had the 1990 Pichon Lalande lately?
It got thumbs down from RP years ago, but I’m curious as to what others have thought more recently (largely because I just noticed some previously overlooked bottles in my cellar).

I’ll be curious to hear what you think if it after all these years, HBL, my experiences years ago were that it eas a flawed 79 point wine.
Re: 1990 Pichon Lalande
I tasted it at a 21 vintage Pichon Lalande vertical (1947-2005) in June last year. I was very pleasantly surprised by it. I found it to be balanced with some dark and pretty fruit, a touch of green but not overpowering. I rated it a 94 and which was around the median for the tasting which was pretty much only the best vintages produced. I liked it better than some acclaimed vintages such as 86/96/00. But this was just one tasting and one bottle. Of course this could be a wine with more variation than the norm.
If you have some and don't really sell your wine then it's worth trying for sure. I don't think it's worth what it goes for on the market currently, when you can often nab the amazing 1989 for a similar price though.

The 1996 and 1996 you mentioned have better reviews, but I found both tannic and a little coarse. The 1990 at our vertical was better than expected, but still a 90 point wine.

I see I rated it 91 recently

I thought I rated it higher and have developed an affection for this wine, having tried in half a dozen times.
I said it lacks ambition, which is probably a bit harsh and not strictly accurate - just that they tried to go from something more elegant in a hot ripe vintage … with mixed results
Sure the 90 Baron - a full throttle wine - is superior but I happily will drink the 1990 Lalande, just as I like the universally denigrated 1990 Mouton.
The 79 Parker score is so wide of the mark as to be a joke.

I've only tasted it once at a small vertical tasting. It definitely lacked the structure and heft of most of the others. But I found it quite enjoyable and remember describing it as "very feminine."
