President Trump
Re: President Trump
The last part was a joke, Jim.
The point was Trump barely won any of those three states, winning in fact by historically minuscule margins in the 3 states which happened to decide the election. So no, Trump didn’t “ kicked her pretty good in that state”.

Re: President Trump
Last night Michael Moore said Gov. Whittmer is not available as a VP candidate. Michigan residents need her too much right now.
I don't think Trump stands a chance in MI this November. Pretty sure he's lost WI as well after the primary debacle that was capped off by a swing to the left in their state supreme court.

Re: President Trump
I'm glad to see the Dems finally winning some of these local battles.
The Republicans killed us for the past decade at the state and local level and it really hurt us in federal elections.
We shall see! I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best.
I don't think it is hyperbole to say this country cannot survive another four years of Trump.

Re: President Trump
Patrick, Jim, we finished watching the Hillary series on Hulu yesterday.Blanquito wrote:Per Wikipedia:
“Trump won Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes out of more than 6,000,000 cast, a difference of 0.72% and the narrowest margin in a presidential election for the state in 176 years.
Trump unexpectedly won Wisconsin by a narrow margin of 0.77%, a difference of 22,748 votes out of 2,976,150 cast. A total of 188,330 were cast for third party candidates in WI in 2016.
Trump unexpectedly won Michigan by a narrow margin of 0.23%, with 47.50% of the total votes over the 47.27% of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. This is the narrowest margin of victory in Michigan's presidential election history.“
An amazing royal straight flush Trump pulled off there. Russian hacking anyone?
In the last five minutes of the last episode, Mandy Grunwald, Hillary's media campaign director says: "When you lose with so few vote, anyone who has a theory on why we lost is right, you didn't talk enough about the economy? Ok, it was Comey, ok, any of those factors could have been determinative"
https://books.google.com/books?id=rScnD ... ry&f=false
BTW, the series is excellent and highly recommended.

Did she say anything about whether it was HILLARY HERSELF who cost us the election?
Re: President Trump
Hillary herself in the documentary says so at numerous times. She kept rehashing things she could have done differently.JimHow wrote:Did she say anything about whether it was HILLARY HERSELF who cost us the election?

Hilary took the black vote for granted and paid the price. Biden has an entirely different relationship with this voter segment so the hope is turnout will be high.

All that matters, come November, is the turnout of the dems.... Nothing else...

Jim, you’ve always impressed me.
But you’ve now taken it to another level.
I am in awe... that you made it through an entire episode of Tiger Douche.

Watched episode 2 last night.
Maybe we need to just let the virus kill off the human species.
We can start up again in another million years or so.

What a moron - now he wants doctors to investigate whether disinfectants can be injected to stop the virus.
Re: President Trump
Maybe Trump will guzzle a bottle of bleach. I hear that the 2020 Clorox Splashless is particularly good, if you can find it. Nothing shows on Bleach Searcher Pro but I'm sure Trump has connections.
I expect idiocy from Trump. When I see a distinguished professional like Dr. Birx lower herself to finding ways to rationalize his idiocy I am embarrassed for her and filled with despair that this band of clowns and sycophants is leading us.

Re: President Trump
Pretty much agree with this summary of trump’s situation: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/24/opin ... e=Homepage
He’s on the ropes and he knows it. The election could still be close in the end and it’s increasingly evident that the GOP will stop at nothing to steal another one, but I still think Trump is in trouble even with his small state advantage in the electoral college. I would say a Biden landslide is as likely as a narrow Trump win, assuming anything remotely resembling a fair and open election takes place.

Re: President Trump
Nice article, Patrick.
We get the government we deserve.
Seeing how popular a show like Tiger King is, I'm afraid the first line in that article may come true:
"And he's going to get re-elected."

From the article:

52.5 percent of Americans disapprove of his job performance. Only 43.4 percent approve."
>>
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

THIS is what I fear the most.
There is no way that Orange and the Republicans are going to let this election be held on Nov. 3rd if they are at risk f losing both the White house and the Senate:

Re: President Trump
Roger Cohen is the best writer at the NYT.
He speaks of "a lunatic unbound":
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/24/opin ... e=Homepage
Our political system has been unstable for some time now, and this crisis is really threatening its very existence. As Cohen says, November 3rd is the key date. We have to throw everything into it and save democracy.

Right you are, Patrick.
Re: President Trump
I guess the main arc of my thinking is this: everything had to go right for Trump in 2016 (Comey, the Russian disinformation campaign, the slight downturn in the economy in 2016, running against a historically unpopular opponent, benefiting from Democrat fatigue after 8 years of Obama, enjoying an outsider status when the electorate was sick of the establishment, and probably more) and he STILL barely won in arguably the tightest election in our nation’s history of close elections.
Except for the Russians, I don’t think Trump has any of those advantages in 2020. In fact, the Coronavirus turned what were his already thin chances of re-election into the potential for a rout.

Re: President Trump
For those who laugh at Donald Trump, ask Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush, and Hillary Clinton how funny it was.
Donald Trump is a political godzilla, the likes of which we have never seen in the history of this country.
He gets free press coverage that would literally be worth billions of TV advertising dollars.
He sucks the oxygen out of the room.
He and Fox and the Republican Party will attack Sleepy Joe with the force of a hundred nuclear bombs.
The incumbent president almost always has big advantages.
Since Herbert Hoover only two incumbents have lost elections: Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush.
Joe Biden is stronger than Hillary but he is no Barack Obama.
And then we have the Democratic Party leadership itself, which is as arrogant a group that exists out there.
There are a lot of woke professors in classrooms and experts in liberal big city newspapers who think that Orange is self-destructing.
Laugh at and underestimate him at your peril.
There are many, many hurdles that Democrats have to overcome.
Republicans are ruthless. Democrats are sissies.
Republicans are masters at suppressing the vote. Democrats are masters at whining about it.
The Russians, and most likely the Chinese, will interfere on behalf of Orange.
Trump and Mitch will use the coronavirus any way possible to their advantage, including delaying the vote somehow and raising doubts about the integrity of the results if they have to.
There will be the usual long lines in Democratic voting districts in states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, and north Carolina.
As usual, the turnout among Republicans will be high and they will march in almost complete lockstep for their guy as they remain as angry and energized as they were four years ago, perhaps more so.
The Democrats fell asleep at the switch back in 2010 and have been devastated by the gerrymandering and Republicans taking control of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches at the local and state levels.
The heavily conservative federal courts, led by SCOTUS, will defend Trump's interests in any voting rights issues.
Trump and the Republicans will raise much more money than the Democrats as Joe remains stuck in his basement.
By the fall most of the effects of Corona will be behind us, people will be back to work, the NFL will be in full swing, a lot of the pain we are feeling now will be a distant memory. Trump will talk about how he saved lives, averted a total catastrophe, and has gotten the economy up and running again.
Fox and conservative radio will continue to rile up the base far more effectively than the liberal media.
From what I've read we are getting killed in social media.
Despite all of the disaster that has happened in the last couple months, Joe is ahead in places like Wisconsin by only like 2 points.
He should be winning like every state by 15 points.
Polls mean nothing at this point. Mike Dukakis was way ahead of Bush in late summer after the conventions, and Bush ended up smoking him.
And of course Hillary was well ahead with three weeks to go in 2016.
I don't place any weight on the fact that Hillary won by 3 million votes in the popular vote. those numbers are skewed by California and New York.
I'm still not betting against Orange Head.

I really fear for this generation, so easily offended.
Ah well, oldtimers probably said the same thing about my generation.
We need heavy minority turnout in Florida, NC, and the rust belt.
