TN: 89 Rauzan Segla and a few others
Friend in town from St. Louis and we got the wine crew together at Elle to drink a few bottles.
Bereche - always top notch
Tschida - Gruner Veltliner but like flowers, sawdust and Minute Maid lemonade on a taught acidic spine. I loved this but would be superpolarizing…
97 La Jota Howell Mountain - great quality but reflective of the hot year
89 Rauzan Segla - I served blind. This was beautifully aromatic and very reflective of Margaux spice. Most picked cab, but only one person got to Left Bank… Still a good bit of fruit, which led some to guess Cali Cab. Decidedly middleweight and with subtle chalkiness remaining, this was lovely.
12 Ante Phylloxera - a special and rare Cab Franc from franc de pied vines unfortunately not being made anymore - love this wine.
Great wines all around.
Fun to compare 11 and 13 Corison Kronos… 13 a better, richer wine, but 11 one of Cathy’s great successes.

Ahh, poor Auntie Phylloxera. I hear her husband was a louse.
Nice report Noah, thanks.

Quite the eclectic selection there.

Nice quick report Noah.
Chateau Rauzan Ségla is a wine that can age very well. In the last years, I've been bringing and enjoying the 1989 and 1990 to BWE convention, and both are great example of what that Margaux estate is able.
The 2015, that i taste in 2017, is probably a great wine in the coming 20 years...
I don't know Corison as a producer, but will keep it in mind as I'm always interested by California Cabernet Sauvignon that I don't know, and that might be an eye opener.

I am a a big Rauzan Segla fan. I got a great deal on a youngish case of the 85 and probably drank it too soon, but man was it good. It has remained a favorite since.
I have an untasted 89 and a few 2000 left.

Joined Corison's club last year after visiting. Big fan and very different than most Napa cabs. Just had a 2016 of their regular cab last night. 13.1 percent abv. Red and blue fruits dominant with terroir coming through. By all accounts these age very well.Nicklasss wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 2:12 am Nice quick report Noah.
