Re: So what have you bought lately?
This is an interesting wine that I might have to seek out. I'm getting very into Chenin lately and keep trying to find some reasonably priced Bernaudeau. This still isn't cheap but obviously seems like a great value comparatively. Does this beat/compete with white Burgundy of similar price point for you?jckba wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 11:06 pm JimS, I think this is an upper echelon Loire Valley producer and a value compared to the wines of Stephane Bernaudeau whose pricing exploded overnight despite being variable. My only pricing issue with Boudignon lies with their importer Skurnik as the wholesale price is up $20 year over year but such is life.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
That's where my head is at as well - I actually like his wines better than Bernaudeau's and simply do not understand the relative pricing there. Personally, I much prefer it that way (a wine I like better that I can buy for cheaper) and hope his prices don't rise. Clos de la Hutte and Clos de Fremine are my favorites, but the Vigne Cendree is not to be missed either. In my eyes, his wines sort of redefine to me what Chenin Blanc is capable of. Am a huge fan.jckba wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 11:06 pm JimS, I think this is an upper echelon Loire Valley producer and a value compared to the wines of Stephane Bernaudeau whose pricing exploded overnight despite being variable. Re: So what have you bought lately?
Joel - not sure it is a substitute for the upper echelon of White Burgundy, but I would say on a price basis....give me a $100 bottle of Boudignon's over a $100 white burgundy every day; my fear, however, is that prices won't stay at these levels for very long....can never pinpoint exactly when a producer enters into a higher echelon, but I have a local importer in my city (StL) who imports these, and as soon as these wines drop at the local store, they are nearly immediately sold out. So, I do sense that demand and awareness of the value here is growing, unfortunately.JoelD wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 1:17 pmThis is an interesting wine that I might have to seek out. Re: So what have you bought lately?
Just returned from the Willamette Valley. a few cases of the following vintners:
St. Innocent !.5 cases
Drouhin of Oregon 1 case
Resonance 5 bottles
Shea 3 bottles
Utopia 3 bottles
Cristom 4 bottles
Violin 2 cases
Vincent 4 bottles
McKinkley 1 case.
Probably close to an even split between pinots and chards with one syrah.

Thanks for the tip. That's exactly what I was asking. Will have to seek some out soon then!JimS wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 1:44 pm

2 x 3 packs of 2020 La Conseillante WK rated 100
I have tried it, and it is very good, though not sure it is 100 pts…

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Huh. That might be the first time Conseillante ever got 100 points from a major critic. Long overdue in a sense, but I’d also be pretty surprised if the 2020 was actually the best Conseillante ever. Odds seem against itComte Flaneur wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 9:39 am 2 x 3 packs of 2020 La Conseillante WK rated 100

But the pressure to make the 2020 Conseillante Wine of the Year on release in 2024 will be enormous.marcs wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 4:46 pmHuh. 3 bottles of 1989 Haut Brion, and I am going into a Summer hibernation, and do my best not to buy anything until September. I will fail of course, but I am a living example that I am proof against anything except temptation.

Apparently the 2022 is quite something according to my friend who is chauffeuring a certain UK wine critic this week.Musigny 151 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 7:26 pmBut the pressure to make the 2020 Conseillante Wine of the Year on release in 2024 will be enormous.marcs wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 4:46 pmHuh. 2014 of course deserved special honors as the last pre-Rolland Conseillante vintage, which does not apply to 2020

Lovely thought. On a par with hitting my head on a concrete slab until my brain starts to explode.

Sorry for the thread drift.
It is not just Trump, it’s what he has given birth to. I hope it is not stuck behind a paywall.

If you look down the article you see that the conflict in this county was triggered by the local government threatening to jail parents who sent their kids to school without a mask during Covid. That kind of insane government overreach quite rightly brings a democratic response.Musigny 151 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 10:17 pm Sorry for the thread drift.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yes but is 2016 better in Margaux because the vintage is just overall better across the region? I remember Musigny151 once told us that, as good as the 2015 Giscours was, it was no match for the 2016 Giscours.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Sounds as if this warrants a future 2015 vs 2016 Margaux challenge across several properties.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Not that we really care beyond the trivia value, but was it the 2016 vintage where Giscours got in trouble for chaptalization?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
3 x Tour St Bonnet 2010
1 x GPL 2011
Both bought at Auction. Lots of unsold wine and those that did sell only took one bid to secure (including mine). Not sure if this the cost-of-living crisis kicking in or just an unusually quiet auction.

Well I busted.
Been saying no more Bordeaux buts this year but just ordered a case of 2019 Ch Pontet Canet.
I tried this some months ago and really liked it. More power than most 2019s but in a nice way.
Cheers
