Re: So what have you bought lately?
Funny...my ex and I stopped at Anderson Conn Valley to do a tasting back when I drank California cab...I left with their pinot
...I'm sure my palate will not be a huge fan anymore, but I bought it out of curiosity. Will serve it with a few others who I'm sure will enjoy.

Case of 2020 Chapelle St Theodoric CdP ‘Le Grand Pin’ @ $864 and 2 cases of 2021 Bernard Baudry Chinon ‘Les Grezeaux’ @ $290/per all-in.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
The next big thing in Piedmont is Gianluca Columbo - trust Comte Flaneur - I have been a buyer across the board with the exception of his ambitious Pinot Noir project where I only bought a few bottles

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Too my shock, shock I tell you, I just won at auction 2 pristine bottles of the 1998 La Conseillante for $159.50 each including the buyer’s premium. I figured it’d easily go for >$200 each.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I’m happy for you. Isn’t that nice being out of the wine buying freeze? Freedom (and some La Conseillante) is what we all looking for!

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Definitely worth breaking your buying freeze, again. I love La Conseillante and have been grabbing the 2000 whenever I see it at good prices. But I really need some 98/01/05 now. I feel like those rarely pop up at even semi reasonable pricing.

I predict your favorites (for current consumption and assuming equally good provenance across everything) will be the two 83 Righties. Is the 2000 Montrose even worth thinking about yet?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I echo the above, nice haul Joel and I went with a back vintage pickup of a 6pack of the 2016 JF Mugnier Clos de La Marechale NSG 1er for $145/per which yes, is more than it was on release but is also less than the average price for the current vintage on the market.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
You're probably right. I hope the VCC lives up to the one I had in early 2022 and was my WOTY. And I'm very curious to see how the Trotanoy compares.
I'd say the 2000 Montrose is either approaching or has just entered the HowQuito range. It's probably not old enough yet for your palate, but I thoroughly enjoyed my tastes of it. I don't plan to open my lone bottle for a few years but I think many on this board would appreciate it now.
I'll crack my 1996 first, which I bought in London and forgot to put on the list that I just posted. Along with a boatload of awesome Champagne and some Lafarge from Paris.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I would luv your thoughts on that '96 Joel..I have one resting
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I have one bottle each of 1996 Montrose, 1996 Ducru, 1996 Las Cases.robert goulet wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 2:00 pm I would luv your thoughts on that '96 Joel..I have one resting
The only bottle I've had was the Ducru about 4 years ago and it was still pretty tight and structured but accessible with a lot of air.
Which one do BWE'ers think I should open first? Meaning which one is most ready to provide pleasure and hopefully fully past any closed down window or dumb phases.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I’ve had all 3 and all 3 are drinkable at this stage but with long futures ahead and most so for the LLC.
Additional 2 cases of 2019 Antoine Sanzay Saumur Champigny ‘Les Poyeux’.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Thanks for the insight. Maybe I should just keep waiting on all 3? Since I only have one bottle of each. Although I'm always on the lookout for more of any of them at the right price..

That 2018 Larose Trintaudon is absolutely delicious.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I had a 96 LLC in January and it was drinking really well with early aged complexity. Took about an hour to open up. Not at peak for my palate but still very happy I opened it. Predicting even more complexity over time.JoelD wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 2:45 pmI have one bottle each of 1996 Montrose, 1996 Ducru, 1996 Las Cases.robert goulet wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 2:00 pm I would luv your thoughts on that '96 Joel..I have one resting

My last 96 Ducru was 4 years ago. Took a couple of hours to open. Really nice bottle. I had one more left and my note said wait 5 more years to open it. Just about there…

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I would think Montrose would be next in line to drink. It’s a delicious Montrose but a bit different style than the modern Montrose, a tad more forward.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Dear Diary,
A whole week has passed, and I have not made a single purchase. I feel good, but just have just missed hitting saintliness as I succumbed to preordering some Montrose and VCC futures. As you may know, they don’t count as they are still juice and cannot survive without the accompanying bottle. A Jewish rather than a Catholic way of looking at when a wine is born. (I have a funny story about that, which one day, if you get me sufficiently drunk, I will reveal).

Re: So what have you bought lately?
It's a dessert wine Bill, Gewurztraminer grapes, and instead of ice to concentrate the sugar in the grapes on the vines, Tzora sends the grapes to freeze. First I heard of this technique, but I had a small taste of the wine, it smelled like pure Gewurtz and had enough acidity to stand up to the sweetness. I admit just buying this out of curiosity, but it's only 9.5% alcohol and I have no dessert wine here.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I think that some Canadian ice wines are made with that procedure, Jacques. In the Judean Hills, they might get a traditionally made ice wine every 50 years.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Case of recently arrived 2022 Boulay Sancerre @ Polaner cost and I guess I will soon see if warmer temps affected the resulting wine.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Guys
I’ve bought more Burgundies lately.
Picked up 2 cases of Marc Morey Chassagnes - Refers and Virondot - both 2020.
Used to buy these regularly in Australia but never seen them here.
Also bought 12 x Tortochot Gevrey Chambertin “Les Jeunes Rois” 2019. The young kings in English.
Also a case of 2020 Chassange Montrachet “La Caniere” from a producer I’ve never heard of, being Domaine Patrick Miolane. Anyone know anything about them? Maybe I was curious but nobody else bothered to bid so it was cheap.

A case of 2019 Ségur du Cros Loupiac. A fabulous sweet wine for less than 25 $ a bottle. If you can find it, i recommend it very strongly.
Just a little bit less thick as Sauternes, but almost as complex on the nose/mouth.
This type of bottle is the best thing for a sweet wine lover.

I cleaned the rest of that private cellar out of their 95s:
-6 x 1995 Pichon Lalande (bringing the total to 12 bottles)
-5 x 1995 Ducru Beaucaillou (to a total of 10)
And another bottle of the 02 Delamotte BdB to round out a case.
Private cellars are great: No shipping, no sales tax, no guilt!
