So what have you bought lately?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
At the CDG airport in Paris on the way back to the US
Philipponat Royale Reserve x 2 (good price at $34 each)
Purchased as per Champagne exemption. Still master of my domain.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Well done, J, I’m in full wine freeze mode, with no thoughts of buying anything soon.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Thank you
Now the real challenge begins. I may need to activate the Florida Rosé exemption soon

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I bought three bottles of mature Bordeaux, two from the 1966 vintage and one from the 2003 vintage (gasp…)
All at v good prices and good fills/condition - Haut Brion (£335) Ducru Beaucaillou (£165) and Sociando Mallet (£45)

1964 Haut Brion is one of the first first growths that we bought, way back in 1970. It is arguably the best of the 1964 first growths.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Considering that wholesale prices are up $20 year over year on this one I snagged 3x2019 Thibaud Boudignon ‘Clos de La Hutte’ Savennieres @ $75.99 along with 6x2020 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge @ $49.99 b/c there really is no better house red than this.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Tempier's Bandol normale is so good, I should really buy it more often. I just remember too vividly when it cost $30 to pull the trigger at $50-$60.

Ha-ha. The 1964 Haut-Brion mentioned above I first bought for $10. I would happily pay ten times that now.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
According to an inflation calculator I found on google, $10 in 1970 would only be worth $78.18 in today’s dollars. I’d pay $78 for any vintage of Haut Brion.stefan wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 5:53 pm >>

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Snagged the last 3 btls of 2019 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge from Total Wine in River Edge, NJ for $64.97/per + tax which I thought was quite reasonable considering most everything else is a total rip off

The local Costco also has/had the 2019 Gloria for $32 and the 2019 Ferriere for $36. I bought one of each to try soon.

3*2019 Grand Puy Lacoste @ $69.97 @ TW in River Edge, NJ. Saw several other interesting 2019 Bdx wines at good pricing along with a boatload of shit, and so it goes.

2 more 2019 Beychevelle for $66 at Costco (bringing my total to 4(. Interesting, Galloni went on record saying this wine pushes the boundaries of over ripeness. Every other official suck-up liked it though.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Congratulations on finding a favorite, Nic!
The Grand Siecle was the first favorite luxury cuvée I got hooked on back in the ‘80s, before I went down the Krug and Salon rabbit hole. I don’t see it around nearly as much as back then. My recollection is that some were blends of 3 specific vintages and others were ???less specific??? And now they number the releases. Is it now a blend like a Krug MV, with multiple vintages? Is there a way to know what’s in “No. 25?”

I'm fairly sure that the #25 has a 2008 base. Hence the price increase. The #24 was great last year, although needed a lot of air.DavidG wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 8:52 pmCongratulations on finding a favorite, Nic!

« The newest release of Grand Siècle is based upon the superb and structured 2008 vintage (65% of the blend), along with the vivacious 2007 vintage (25%), and the creamy, luxurious 2006 (10%). The final blend is 60% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and 40% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. » from Décanter.DavidG wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 8:52 pmCongratulations on finding a favorite, Nic!
