The Grand Siecle was the first favorite luxury cuvée I got hooked on back in the ‘80s, before I went down the Krug and Salon rabbit hole. I don’t see it around nearly as much as back then. My recollection is that some were blends of 3 specific vintages and others were ???less specific??? And now they number the releases. Is it now a blend like a Krug MV, with multiple vintages? Is there a way to know what’s in “No. 25?”

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Yes, I was pleased to pick them up. That said, I opened one up over the weekend and was surprisingly disappointed. Not sure if it is because the wines weren't stored as well as stated at the auction, or whether it's just going through an awkward phase? Will hold the other one for a later date.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I don't know what I was thinking and said way back in 2016 that the 15s would be my last kick at futures purchases then with 2019 futures prices I saw 20 cases roll into the cellar...WHY??? Two weeks ago I received an email saying final payment required for 2020 futures order which I had no recollection of and my last 4 cases are now in my cellar and I assure everybody these will be my LAST! Nothing big and hopefully my time horizon at 66 will allow me to get through some of my cellar. My son is already talking about his inheritance as there's no way I'll put any significant dent in what's here. Truly a disease but I'll find a way to suffer through it!

Re: So what have you bought lately?
In the olden days Giscours made wine that would hold up for a long time. The other night we drank a 1966 that was in great shape. The concentration was still there but with tannins that were completely resolved.

Yes, I'm not too sure what was going on with that bottle... I mean, what's not to like. Giscours - an 04, it should have been humming. I don't think sediment was the issue either, David but perhaps I was a bit hasty in opening it up after picking it up. I have one more bottle, so will leave it for a while before retasting.robert goulet wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 6:10 pmI popped a 27yr old burg from a 375ml bottle 3hours after FedEx dropped it off...was lovelyDavidG wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:19 pmEnough time for sediment to settle after shipment?robert goulet wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 1:53 pm

What’s that Brittany Spears hit? Oops, I Did It Again? She must have been singing about wine buying freezes, I presume.
To wit, I am now the proud owner of a 6 pack of the 2011 Belair-Monange for the low, low price of $71.50/each all in.
I wasn’t going to bid on this lot, but then I saw Gilman’s 96 pt score and that Parker liked it too. And that this Belair Monange was made exclusively with fruit from the Belair property — Magdelaine fruit didn’t start getting added until the following year — just a few years after Mouiex purchased the property. I then recalled Belair was famous for its old vines (which Mouiex largely grubbed up in 2012) and a legendary limestone terroir abutting Ausone, so this final vintage of “Belair” seemed the perfect companion for the 6 pack of the final vintage of Magdelaine I collected recently while visiting Ian and BWE in London.
I hope it’s good.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Funny you should mention that Patrick - and well done by the way - I snagged some 2010 Belair-Monange at auction last week based on exactly the same logic. I also had the opportunity to try the wine last November and it was superb. And remarkably accessible as well. I realised that this may have been because the wine still had the old vine fruit. I got six for £420 when the estimate was £480-520. Not as low as you got your 11s for but I am happy camper owning these.Blanquito wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 10:25 pm What’s that Brittany Spears hit? It’s funny, the impact of stirred up sediment is unpredictable in my experience, with the exception of old Nebbiolo where suspended sediment can take weeks to settle and is a reliable bottle-killer.
I’m not a believer in “travel shock” other than the impact of stirred up sediment. I try to let older reds settle for a day or two (a month or two for old Barolo), but I’ve also opened old bottles with sediment just hours after a long plane trip that have shown well.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Nice score on the ‘10 Belair-Monange, Ian, and glad to hear it is really good and drinking well already. Makes me all the more pleased with my pick up of the 2011.
I haven’t tried a bottle of the ‘11 Magdelaine yet, figuring I’d wait until it turns 15. If I had a case, I would definitely try one as is but even the earlier drinking vintages like ‘01 and ‘02 didn’t really start to sing until circa 15 years post vintage (though far better than the 30-40 year wait some vin garde seem to require). Is it raring to go already?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Well, in this case it didn’t go well, but I don’t blame B21.
Fedex damaged the shipment and sent it back to FL without attempting delivery. I cancelled the order rather than push my chances on summer weather.
Yesterday I ordered a case of the 2016 F-D from Saratoga.

Nice I didn't know that they were declaring 2016 to be Especial level. They hardly ever do that.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
FWIW, the 2015 was also declared as such and picked up some mags of the recently arrived stateside 2021 Jean Foillard Morgon Cote de Py for $85.99/per.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
That's one we don't see very often
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I received my 2022 futures confirmation. First, let say that the new system to sell wine at our SAQ sucks. You have to give a list of wines you want to buy, after a lotery is done to distribute the available wines between all the buyers who want some. If there is more demand than offer, you might not have your wines... and this what happened to me.
My first order was 18 bottles, got only 9 confirmed... very bad. So i got
3 Phelan Segur
3 Talbot
3 Brane Cantenac
I did not get La Lagune, Nénin and Léoville Barton. Very bad.

I guess this will be amazing, as a few days ago had the 2019 Barbaresco from Verduno, and thought it was great for such a young nebbiolo.

My local crunchy grocery coop somehow gets an allocation of Labet (culty Jura wine). I saw it the day it got put out. Got 7 bottles of various Chardonnay and Savagnin cuvees from 2019 and 2020. Not cheap at $80-$100 per but super tasty and I'm glad to have them.
