Retirement Dinner with Family
Retirement Dinner with Family
After I expressed frustration in dealing with university bureaucracy after retiring on August 31, Lucie suggested that we have a retirement dinner with our daughter T, her husband Judd, and son Rye downstairs at Chez Panisse. As usual, food was excellent at our favorite American restaurant. We started the dinner with 2008 La Grande Dame. I chose this because I thought it was the most forward of the Champagnes we drank in Maine with Jim, Jacques, and Jill, and the most ready of our higher end Champagnes except for some old ones that might be over the hill. This bottle was completely mature and yeasty with toast soaked in citrus. It was great with the anchovy tapenade on a pissaladière. For the main course of roasted Joyce Farms guinea hen I chose a family favorite rather than a fancy wine--the 1996 Nameless Wine. This is the last bottle from the three cases of this wine I purchased in the last millennium. This vintage of the NW has been good since age six and shows no signs of decline. It is perfectly balanced and firmly structured. The bouquet has a hints of Margauxberries and fresh hay.

Congrats on your retirement and thank you for your service as a math professor. Those Nameless wines are really good.

Thanks, all. And keep the NW nameless!

Congrats on your next page in life. More time to golf, travel etc. Looking forward to the next time to get together. You are overdue for a trip north of the border.

Congrats on the retirement, Stefan. In your honor, I just purchased my first NW recently. The often bad 1982, but from a great source.
