I mean, I see complaints on CT about oak. Yes. There is oak. That's because this is a young Bordeaux.

This is such a serious wine. How can this not be the best Langoa ever, at least up to this point? (I haven't tried the 2020 yet.). It is rich, ripe, velvety, yes it's oaky with 14% alcohol, but this wine matches Leoville Barton in every way. Spectacular deep purple color, beautiful aromatics. Tell me which Langoa beats this effort? Beginning to wonder whether 2019 is indeed the best vintage ever, surpassing even 2016 with its personality and verve. Yes the oak is present at this early stage but that only enhances my certainty that this wine will age with complexity for 20-30 years, easily. This is the best Langoa Barton I have ever tasted. Hard to see how Leoville Barton beats this. Stunning. Rating: 95 points.

I've been looking to pick up some more Langoa for my cellar (2019 and/or 2020). However, reading some notes makes it sound like they made a pretty modern styled wine these vintages. I don't drink much from this property...is this typically their style? I always thought of them as a lighter, easy drinking, traditional leaning producer.
Either way, nice note...sounds like you really enjoyed the wine!

Indeed, JC, I asked Lillian about the 2021 label, I was wondering about whether Napoleon drank these wines but I guess he pretty much kicked off at about that time.JimHow wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:16 pm

You should do a side by side and pretty insane that the Langoa has been in the Barton family for 200 years!
StBIGT:
I can't dispute that this wine is "modern," but not necessarily in a big negative way like during the worst of the Parker era. I think this wine certainly benefits from modern winemaking techniques but I don't think there's anything offensive about it. I'm planning on buying more!

FWIW, I liked 2020 better than 2019. In my experience, 2020 Langoa is the best Langoa I have tasted (tasted vintages 2000, 2005 and 2009-2020). I think you will like 2020 too if you like 2019.

Sounds like a beauty as well by all accounts, CV, I'm definitely planning on getting some 2020 Langoa as well to sip on my 110th birthday.
