Re: DC ‘24 Saturday night
The spirit of BWE lives!
What a great time connecting with everyone, and thanks to Joel for organizing our dinners.
It was a smashing success! I'm sitting here at Reagan, got to the airport early to work on my opening statement for my securities fraud trial starting tomorrow morning, reminiscing about great food, wine, and great friends from Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts... the greatest internet wine website in the world!

What a Great week-end and What a Game we had yesterday
Always a pleasure to see everyone, meet new one and seeing old one. My last convention was to Denver in 2019 and last time in DC in 2018.
Thank to all for their generosity and Joel to organise all the diners. All 3, were excellent.
On Saturday, a lot of greats wines.
Some comments:
Krug- Always good!
The 2004 shows better than I have thought.
All the 1964 were good but I prefer younger
Again, it confirms that I really like 1996!
And Pichon Baron 1990, a legend!
My favorite :
Both Krug
Ducru 96
LLC 96
Haut-Brion and Mission HB 04
Gruaud 81-83
Magdelaine 74
Yquem 2011
Pichon Baron 89
And My WOTN - Pichon Baron 90

I slow oxed that Pichon from about 11:30 that day. So many beautiful Bordeaux that night. I liked the ‘74 Magdelaine, also. But the Champagnes were all special, too. While Krug is always wonderful, those three Billecarts were over the top!

I love the 1990 Pichon Baron, which I’ve always thought was First Growth quality.
Glad to see that it showed so well.
I’m down to my last two bottles, though I suspect I need not rush to drink them.

Sorry to have missed this - we were out of town (took daughter to see Taylor Swift in New Orleans…)
Hoping to make BWE DC 25!

Re: DC ‘24 Saturday night
No detailed report and was very happy to see everyone. I only tasted 20 wines, 3 Champagne and the 2011 Château Yquem (complete, complex, just amazing).
1990 Château Pichon Longueville Baron was for me the red of the night, with all it exotic character, ripe, long, complex, with multiple sides. Even a small pour was showing the greatness. Tn : 98.
The 3 1996 were excellent to great, in the same order that JeanFred. The 1996 LLC at 28yo was very LLC and very 1996. Can wait a bit more but not a problem to enjoy now.Ducru Beaucaillou was solid, complex. I would say in the middle of it plateau. Léoville Barton is to drink now, with it perfect claret Saint Julien character.
Among other, i liked the 1989 ‘’old school’’ Pavie, and many of the 2004 including Haut Brion, Mission Haut Brion, Montrose and Sociando Mallet cuvée Jean Gautreau.
Allthe 4 1964 were sound, and i preferred the Troplong Mondot for having more structure and trufle character. Calon Segur earthy and hibiscus side. Canon la Gaffelière was mellowed and complex fruit and oak. Gazin was last for me but old cherries and mushrooms.
The 2 Billecart Salmon cuvée Élizabeth were incredibly dry and long for rosé, and the Krug were just too nice, surely the best oak character in a Champagne.
Unfortunately, some faulthy bottles, not corked, but not offering what they should : 2004 Margaux, 1966 Latour and 1989 Lynch Bages.
Finally, i poured some 2009 Léoville Poyferré blind and i think about 65 % of people liked it. But very bad score for a wine Parker rated… 100!
What a night again. Thank you all for being there and Joel for organizing.

Re: DC ‘24 Saturday night
I think that’s a pretty good summary, Nic, the 1990 Pichon Baron really stood out from the crowd, and that 2011 d’Yquem has always been so seductive, ever since the first time we first tried it at the estate in 2015. The 1989 Lynch Bages was damaged. I have ten bottles in my cellar now following my most recent purchase of four more, it’s time for me to sit there with a bottle soon and really analyze it.
