Be that as it may, the manager of Lafite, Charles Chevalier, told me that vine growth is three weeks ahead of time.
As we all know, early-ripening vintages tend* to be great vintages.

Sooooo guys, maybe we have another vintage of the century in the works.
Wouldn't that be nice?

As supply increases so do prices. This is textbook economics.

I recall that during the dot.com bubble, a secondary offering (or just the announcement of one forthcoming) by a hot company would send its stock price skyrocketing. This is where I learned that supply, demand and price are positively correlated.

The other odd one is "scarcity creates demand." There's probably some truth to this. When told there were only a handful of American Bison remaining in the West and they would soon be extinct, that great proto-environmentalist Teddy Roosevelt grabbed his elephant gun and hopped a train so he could shoot one before they were all gone.

I was reading an article in the current issue of Decanter stating that now that the Chinese have figured out the Medoc and the 1855 ranking system we can expect them to start buying up more than just Lafite. According to this same article, they haven't yet taken notice of Grave! Hmmm, is that meant to be fair warning? But the south/south-east may be the place to look for something good but not over-priced. I found the '06 Domaine de l'A to be pretty good -- might we expect good things to come. Speaking of which, what's the state of the 2010 boycott? Is it on? If not, things like the 2010 de l'A might be worth a shot.

Buy '04 before it's all gone.

The problem up here, Hound, is that the government has legislated for itself a monopoly on alcoholic beverages. The government stores import so much of a product, and that is it. Once that product is gone, and the 04s are going very quickly now, there will be no more. And I can't order them in from the States or other Canadian provinces -- at least not legally.

In general www.liv-ex.com prices seem to be levelling off... I don't know what that means other than at this minute people are sticking, rather than hitting or folding.

Historically, it usually means a fold is coming...
