Wine Searcher shows low prices around $200 in Europe, $250 in the US. I could be wrong, but I don't think it will get much cheaper, and may even go up. I have no way of getting it into the US from Europe short of buying it over there, so I bought in the US.

The auctions in Paris are pretty astounding, but not always. You have to know what to look for and know when to pass something up that you might have wanted. Generally, the bargains are on a) lots of single or very few bottles, and b) lots with poor labels or fills. Restaurants and retailers generally stay away from those bottles since they are more difficult to sell. Beyond that, it is all a matter of who you are bidding against. If you have a bunch of people that are Burgundy experts bidding, go for Bordeaux. And vice versa. Every now and then, you get an amazing deal, then you just have to resist the temptation to flip it...

Nice one CV - I also bought A Voerzio 4x3 mixed case of 2010 Barolos and some 2010 Bartolo

I spent last weekend in burgundy and drank very nicely, but the reason was to load up on some mid week white burgundies of which we imbibe copious amounts.

The result of the smash and grab/drive by:

24 bottles of Bernard Moreau Bourgogne Blanc 2013 at 12 euro a bottle
42 bottles of Jean Baptiste Ponsot Rully Molesme 1er Cru 2013 at 17
18 bottles of Vincent Girardin St Aubin 1er Cru Perrieres 2012 a 22
18 bottles of Pierre Yves Colin Morey St Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly 2013 at 26
6 bottles of P&M Jacquesson Rully 1er Cru La Pucelle 2013 at 16
12 splits of mature Etiiene Defaix 1er Cru Chablis for 122 for the lot

As you know, Voerzio has gotten out of reach of many....

Mostly I am opting for other producers now a days. Forgot to mention earlier, I also bought couple of bottles each of 2010 Conterno Cicala and 2010 Rinaldi Tre tine...

I just have some 3 or 4 bottles of early 2000's cerequio...I just bought one left out 2010 Voerzio La Serra in a sale...

Have you had Canonica before? How is it like?

You know what I don't know Canonica, I need to investigate. People over here have never even heard of (Baldo) Cappellano who is (was) the Godfather (cue high pitched mandolin/violin music)...

Roberto Voerzio's style is right on the cusp of what I can take...and the estate projects an elitist image which I think is unfortunate - but they are impressive albeit highly extractive wines. I bought odds of 1995, 2000 and 2001 Cerequio and Brunate.

I tried some of his 2004s and 2010s and they were pretty impressive, but in a rather full on style.

8 bottles of 2002 Pol Roger Winston Churchill @ $150. I know that down the road I will be kicking myself for not purchasing two cases, but I already have so much wine as PC pre arrivals that I will lose the price of a fancy new car if PC goes belly up.

Actually that's where I purchased those 2 bottles of canonica. A while back I read an article about top producers in Barolo (snooth?) and that article profiled Canonica as very traditional using barriques, old fashioned pressing with extensive maceration using natural yeasts, etc. I think he produces less than 2000 bottles a year, and seems like an interesting producer and want to try...

Yes, I did say I was buying, not necessarily receiving too much. Though they eventually came through on every single bottle, I am done buying pre-arrivals from PC. OTOH, I don't know if I would have been able to resist the 2002 PR Winston Churchill at a pre-arrival price of $150...

Precisely why I had to unsubscribe. They owe me a lot of wine, mostly 2009 Bordeaux (now longer than my 2005 Bordeaux from PC took), various chablis and champagne. If/when most of that comes in, then I may sign back up.

I just bought a few things:

One case of Chateau Certan De May 2001. This is an absolute classic old style Pomerol which HWSRN didn't like, so I got them at an average of $70 a bottle

Six bottles of Ch Belair 2004 @$46 pb. This wine is a beauty, it is quite tight and classic but very well made.

Six bottles of Guigal Chateau D'Ampuis Cote Rotie 2000 for the same price as the Certan

One case of Cote Rotie Les Essartailles, 2000 ,Domaine Vins de Vienne at $35 a bottle.

Six bottles of Louis Jadot Beaune Clos De Ursules 2001 for about $65 each.

Six bottles of Pierre Yves Colin Morey Corton Charlemagne 2011 for about $120 a bottle.

Today I picked up eight bottles of Canonica Barolo Paiagallo - four 2009 and four 2010 plus a magnum of the 2010. The bottles worked out at around $80 each. Only ones in the UK, so thanks for the heads up CV.

2001 -- from anywhere -- is starting to look like the go-to vintage when encountered on a restaurant wine list. We had some delicious 2001 CdP's and Cali Cabs at dinner with friends a week ago.

Indeed, the 2001 Certan de May is certainly a very good buy. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to find a bottle of this splendid neighbour of Pétrus here in our region. But at least I have bought a half case of 2008 Cadet-Piola at a very good price today afternoon, €18,60 a bottle, and a few bottles of 2006 Croix de Labrie. BTW, I have never tasted a bottle of this garage wine so far.

It is a cracking wine Patrick. I have a case of 1998 on the go and one or two left from my first case of 2001. I would rate the 2001 even better than the 1998. We did a 1998 tasting here recently, apologies for not posting notes, but the 1998 Certan De May was the wine of the night. These were not trophy wines but classed growths. I will write up the notes and post them over the holidays.

So you guys should snap up that case...Patrick if nobody steps up you should take the whole case. You'll regret it otherwise...

Since I posted I have also bought the following:

One case of Vincent Paris Cornas Geynale 2007 for £200 in bond...seemed like a no brainer...and

Re the 2000 Guigal the reports have been going from bad to mixed to better... I admit that was a gamble...however the other 2000 Cote Rotie I bought I have already tried and it is fabulous, especially at the price. I will report back.

In the effort to try and clean up on all mis priced Bordeaux, I found and pulled the trigger on 11 btls of 2005 Pontet Canet @ $99.96 from Canal's Bottlstop and then rounded the case out with a btl of 2012 Kongsgaard chardonnay @ $96.96.
