What's your worst Bordeaux label?
What's your worst Bordeaux label?
Inspired by Chris Kissack's Jules Vernes label post, it made me think of what are the worst Bordeaux labels you have encountered and figured that this would make an entertaining thread. I have two that come to mind and they are both recent one time oddities; one is the 2010 Clerc Milon where they introduced a new label to commemorate the newly reconstructed chai and the second is the 2009 Rauzan Segla where fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld was commissioned for the estates 350th anniversary.

yikes those are appalling.
Re: What's your worst Bordeaux label?
some of the old d'Armailhac / Mouton Baronne Phillippe labels look just terrible. I'm thinking of the 70's / 80's ones.
Grand Puy Ducasse's label has also always been kind of jarring to me, with the angular rampant lions.

Two spring to mind:
Prince Charles's picture of what looks like the Australian outback on the bottle of 2004 Mouton - what was he thinking?
Jeff Koon's label on 2010 Mouton - with a picture of what looks like a naked Ron Jeremy Cherub on the side. It is so vulgar it is clearly designed to cause maximum offence.

To be fair to Prince Charles, he didn't paint that for the Mouton label. It was a pre-existing painting that the Rothschilds selected, so the question should be "what were the Rothschilds thinking?".

I would like to vote for any gold commemorative label, especially if painted/engraved rather than on a printed label.

Now you mention it the 2000 Mouton label is pretty kitsch is it? In the worst possible taste...

Hi,
Decanter magazine had a contest running several years for the Worst Wine Label.
I won twice.
The first time was for a Bordeaux wine called Le Domaine du Tit, which I descibed as "soft, round, and feminine".
The second was for this wine:

Not sure many people will find the 2010 MR label to be offensive.
If they do, then I suggest they never visit an Italian, French or Spanish art gallery.
Sorry if I sound like I am having a go at you, I am not.
My point is that in 2017, just about everything is seen as vicariously offensive.
That is, someone ELSE may under specific circumstances find (..whatever..) to be offensive.
