Re: Happy 18th Birthday to Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts!
This is BWE but we have a nice balance between Bordeaux topics, which predominate, non-Bordeaux wine topics, and indeed non-wine topics.
Congratulations Jim, on its 18th birthday BWE is stronger than ever.

Eighteen years and counting!
Thank you to EVERYONE, past and present, for making this the best wine web site in the world!

I have created this community on 2/26/00 in the hope that I can get at least 10-20 Bordeaux enthusiasts to keep a lively discussion going on a weekly basis. I was very frustrated when Wine Spectator changed the format of their bulletin boards. We had a good community of Bordeaux "experts" under the old Wine Spectator system who came on board regularly and offered a lot of information on tasting notes, where to find deals, etc. For some reason, the editors at WS changed to a much less user-friendly system and they have arrogantly ignored our requests to go back to the old format. If we can get some of the old participants to visit here, and work out any kinks along the way to improve this site, I am convinced we can generate some of the old enthusiasm. Time will tell....

Got a question for ya: I like to share TNs with you guys on non- Bordeaux wines from time to time. I figure we all have similar palates so that if I run into something I like I should share... is it ok to break out of the Bordeaux topic from time to time?

Of course you can write about anything, Ben, I always look forward to your comments. At this point, as we're just getting started, I'm looking for as much discussion as possible....I've got some essays in my word processor that I'm trying to figure out how to get to this site. I've got a lot of ideas on how we can improve this site, I just want to get to know it better. But by all means, give us your notes on California or anything else.... Thanks, Jim.JimHow

Not sure how this happened...my post was to respond to Jim’s initiation of this thread...rather than to start the thread...

I like the annual tradition of posting this "discussion thread." It brings back memories. I still recall a comment from JScott who posted on the old WS board something along the lines of "last one out turn off the lights."
Thanks for getting this started, Jim. Happy Birthday BWE!

Happy Birthday, BWE!
Thanks for making your efforts in starting and continuing BWE, Jim. I don't know of other wine boards that have led to so many lasting friendships.

I owe it all to you guys, without whom I would be talking to myself in the internet universe.
You are correct, Ian, BWE feels as strong as ever.

Happy birthday BWE. 18 years of so much friendship and fun, while enjoying some little Bordeaux, is an amazing story that I would have a tough time to believe, if I would not have live it!
Congratulations to every members around the World to be so generous, humble, and so open to each other.
And thanks to Jim, the BD, who create that community, a bit like God created love.

I've opened a bottle of 2014 Clos Floridene (rouge) to go with my leftover lamb tonight.

Re: Happy 18th Birthday to Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts!
Thanks again to all BWEers out there.
Your participation here is valued greatly, even if you are just lurking and posting occasionally.
At the beginning of the year, like every year, I put together a list of goals for the new year.
Making BWE even better in 2018 was one of those goals.
As Ian said at the outset, BWE is as strong as ever.
Sure, back in 2003, we used to have over 1,000 posts per week.
But quantity is not always quality.
I feel we really have a very strong, unique group of friends here on this site.
For those of you who I haven't met yet, I hope to meet in my travels.
Looking forward to seeing a bunch of you in DC in about three weeks.
We'll post pictures.
Viva Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts!
