- 2014 Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Château de Blagny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (7/27/2018)
How can one mess up in such a good year? This is deep yellow, the nose is subdued, the fruit is very faint, the palate is diluted, the acidity is nonexistent. I've had more intensity in a glass of skim milk. Avoid.
And no, it shows no signs of premature oxidation (86 pts.)

It takes a negociant with the talent of Louis Latour to screw up a white Burgundy in 2014. It is hard to believe that LL made some excellent wines at one time.

I don't know squat about white Burgundy but it seems to me that this property is poor, based on the few times I've had it.
So 2014 is a great year in white Burgundy?
How are 15 and 16?

2014 is great, I've loved every 2014 White Burgundy I've ever had until this bottle. 2015 is supposed to be even better,
I haven't had any 2016 yet.

In my opinion 2014 is the best modern vintage for white burgundy, better than 15 and 16 and frankly better than any vintage I can recall. The 15s are fatter and have less precision, the 16s are leaner. The 17s are supposed to be excellent and close to the 14s in quality. I have so little white burgundy or dry white wine these days. But I recently bought 30 bottles of Nielllon Chassagne 1er Cru 2014.
Re: 2014 Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Château de Blagny
I almost opened a 2014 Niellon Chassagne Champgains but opted to try the LL instead. I'm kind of glad I got rid of this crappy bottle to be honest.
Waiting for a bunch of 2015 François Carillon Puligny Folatieres and Combettes to be delivered Tuesday. I'll be able to get a beter handle on 2015 White Burgundies then.

The 2014s are terrific. Try some of the Jadots to get an idea.

Yes we had a simple 2014 Jadot Mersault last year that was the wine of the night at a tasting at my house.
I'm assuming most of these 2014s are sold out now.

We had a 2014 Jacques Carillon Puligny Champs Canet together at Michael's on East in Sarasota with David and Peggy in February. Of course, it was overshadowed by a 1989 Lynch Bages, that monster just takes over grabs everyone's attention in every tastingJimHow wrote:Yes we had a simple 2014 Jadot Mersault last year that was the wine of the night at a tasting at my house.

My limited experience with this house has been limited to budget, entry level stuff and I have not really enjoyed any of it. It's on my Avoid list.

I was able to pick up the last three 2014 Jadot Mersaults in the NH liquor store system the other day, enabled completely by this thread.

What's the best deal in 2014 white Burgundy? Is Chablis also excellent in 2014? I know chablis much better and the prices there are often much more affordable.

I see the 2014 Jadot Mersault for $40 still (online, out of state). Buy?JimHow wrote:Yes we had a simple 2014 Jadot Mersault last year that was the wine of the night at a tasting at my house.

Yes to Chablis, I have tried various Fevre, Billaud Simon, Louis Michel bottlings form 2014 and they've all been excellent.Blanquito wrote:What's the best deal in 2014 white Burgundy? Is Chablis also excellent in 2014? I know chablis much better and the prices there are often much more affordable.
I've tried among others :
Fevre Bougros
Fevre Vaillons
Louis Michel Forets
And all were exceptional with decent pricing

2014 was a really, really good year for Chablis. My budget tends to prefer Fevre wines, but I do really like Dauvissat and Raveneau, but their prices have really escalated. Fevre mostly runs between $40-80 depending on the vineyard. Most of the lineup is mineral, stone driven...very precise, saline, oyster shell, citrus. The Mont de Millieu is a bit rounder, more CA like than the others. I've tried a few other producers at lower price points (La Chablisienne, d'Henri) but they have been fairly boring, and lack the precision of William Fevre.

Billaud Simon is a consistent favorite of mine. I’ll look for some of their 2014.
Re: 2014 Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Château de Blagny
I also love their style. Only thing is that they were bought by Faiveley and I'm not sure the style will stay consistent.Blanquito wrote:Billaud Simon is a consistent favorite of mine. I’ll look for some of their 2014.
Try the Louis Michel Forets. Really good

Thanks, gents. I see the Louis Michel Forets 2014 for $30. I will get some.
The 2014 Billaud-Simons, however, are all >$50! I used to buy these for <$30 as recently as the 2010 and 2012 vintages (albeit from PC).
