Re: So what have you bought lately?
Very, very well done indeed, Gerry. Bravo, bravo. Those are all great wines, I have tried all but the LB and I give them all outstanding ratings.
Looks like the 750s of Beaucastel are gone, no?
I drank a 2015 Beaucastel a while back, it was great.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
The 750's are pretty much gone except for 3 bottles in a remote store in Glen. I had already picked up a couple of 375's earlier and I snagged a magnum using gift cards a few weeks ago. I tapped out the Nashua store of all their Giscours with this last trip and have 15 750's all together. I think I have enough to last me until I'm 90, God willing.JimHow wrote:Very, very well done indeed, Gerry. Bravo, bravo. NH Still has quite a bit of Krug 164ed around at a very low price by todays standards. On the sale it nets out to about $124 a bottle. This release has 2008 vintage as the base juice and will only get better for a long time to come.
Most of the 2015 Bordeaux ended up in the highway stores in Hampton and Hooksett with only a minor amount finding its' way over my way.

I really lost control this summer, and I blame too much time on this web site. Also a very dangerous hobby of scanning auction sites and winesearcher for wines below market price, of which there are a lot right now.
These are just my summer purchases waiting for Fall shipping season:
6* 2012 Beaucastel – $60/bottle
12*2014 Geantet-Pansiot Jeunes Rois – $28/bottle
12*2014 Geantet-Pansiot Les Poissenot 1er – $48/bottle
2*2004 Tertre-Rotebouef – $90/bottle
4*2011 Tertre-Rotebouef - $80/bottle
2*1990 Wynns John Riddoch – $85/bottle
3*2015 d’Issan – $65/bottle
6*2015 Bouchard Le Corton - $105/bottle
4*2001 Renaissance Cabernet Reserve - $27/bottle
2*2009 Malescot Exupery – $85/bottle

Just cleaned out my local NH State store of their last 8 bottles of 2015 Ch Brane-Cantenac. After reading our BD's comments how could I resist?

What are your recommendations from 2013 italy, BN?
Gerry, I'm hoping to get more Brane and some d'Issan on the way back from Logan when I come back from Paris, on the last day of the sale.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
To be honest, I've been buying mainly on others' recommendations. I've always been a Bordeaux guy. But, a friend in St. Louis bought a cellar full of top 60s and 70s Piemonte wines and I always loved them, even if I only bought the occasional bottles. My cellar being BDX skewed, I thought 2013 was a good vintage to jump in and correct that. Being 50 and seeing the potential that a lot of the Barolos on my list could easily go the way of Bordeaux price-wise, I thought I'd make a little investment in my future drinking pleasure...
)
Anyway -- I can highly recommend:
F. Rinaldi's whole line-up of Barolos
F. Alessandria's Normale and Gramolere are very solid wines -- though I haven't opened a Montvigliere yet
Elio Grasso's Ginestra Casa Mate is very good and a little riper and more volatile, but in a pleasant way
So far, I have had and very much liked the Produttori del Barbaresco Normale '14, and the Rio Sordo and Montestefano crus. I bought all of them assuming the universal praise was warranted. If you find the 2016 Langhe for under $20, it is a steal.
Cogno's Cascina Nuova seemed promising but was the only one I've had that was pretty shut down
My favorite, price considered, is probably the Brovia Barolo. Tasty stuff...
Price not considered -- the Cavallotto Bricco Boschis is a real treat. Lots of really nice wines, though...
I have a number of wines in queue and will be posting notes as I taste through them. And, I'm going to the Cannubi tasting at Chambers on October 13th. Overall, I give the 2013s I've tried a big thumbs up. It's the first thing I've really bought into since 2005 Bordeaux (not that there haven't been any number of other great options since). I just checked out of wine for a while and rode my too-large cellar down a bit.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Thanks for the Rex’s. I need to get some “cellar savers” into my cellar.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Cross-posted in the 2015 Canon thread:
There’s a pretty nice wine store in the new shopping center we’ve been frequenting since our move. Very good selection of wines, excellent even for the area, and really deep on Scotch, Bourbon and some less-available beers. Prices are on the high side, ok when things are on sale. I browse more than I buy. Today they were having their 5th anniversary sale with 35% off select wines marked with a red dot. I did a much more careful inventory this time around.
Lo and behold, way up top in the back temp-controlled room where they keep the good stuff and the older vintages, not easy for me to see with my neck issues, there is a 2015 Canon with the red dot. Marked down from $140 to $91. I asked if they were sure this was supposed to be part of the sale. Yup, rung up at $91/btl. They have a case. I took 6 and left the rest for the next sharp-eyed BWE.
There were a few other things that were hard to resist, but I managed to limit myself to a total of 1 mixed case:
6 x 2015 Canon @ $91
2 x 2010 Branaire @ $58
2 x 2010 La Lagune @ $52
2 x 2009 Calon Segur @ $97
Best deals I’ve had at a local wine store in MD in decades.

I paid $81 ea. for my 2 bottles of '10 Branaire. The CT community average is $85.

Nice buy, David.
Why did a young person like you, who is short of wine, not buy more when the prices are so low?

Nice set of Bordeaux for you David.
I'm also used to St Cosme Côtes du Rhône. Never had the Croze or Côte Rôtie as small quantity available here. Looking forward to open one in the next 6-8 month.

I'm on a freeze until 2019. A test of wills, if you will.
Tempted by a pristine case of the 82 Magdelaine for $143/bottle, though.

I put away some of their St Joe in 2015.
I don't think their Cote Rotie ever made it my way unf.
Have one last bottle St Cosme C-R left from the turn of the century.....

Half a house on Lake Mercer, if it passes inspection (the other half will be owned by stefanJr and Irena). We stayed in the house over the fourth of July and all of us loved it. The property came on the market just last week.
On stefanJr's last tour of the house he discovered that it has a full basement. Since the basement has only one entry door and no window, it is useful only for storage. What can you store in the basement of a second home? Surely someone on the board can give me suggestions.

Congratulations stefan...
If not planning to rent it out, ofcourse, a walk-in cellar to begin with... Maybe a theater if you enjoy movies as it doesn’t have windows... And a small kitchen along with a pool table would round out the space...

Despite my firm resolve, in a strictly impulse buy at the new Costco in Elk Grove:
2. 2015 Brane Contenac
1. 2015 Gloria
1. 2015 Marquis de Terme
I never had the Marquis so, I thought I give it a try. I'm hopeless.

That 1985 Dominus may be getting a little long in the tooth. You might want to pop one soon to check it out... I had the 1992 (cellared since release) and -- IMO -- it had seen better days.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Uh oh. I checked cellartracker and most notes were still quite favorable. I’m scheduled to open a bottle tomorrow at a tasting, I’ll report back.
