NWR: What is your scariest movie of all time?
My most frightening movie of all time:
The Astounding She-Monster (circa 1958).

Kill Bill 2. Not so much the movie itself, but because it is one of Lucie's favorites.

Omen 1
I saw a very scary film the other day called 'The Fourth Kind'. Ever since I have been having nightmares about being abducted by aliens and have been waking up at 3.30 am in a cold sweat

I'm amazed at the lack of truly scary movies out there. You would think there would be more.
Exorcist, Halloween, Omen, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a few others. There should be more....
The Astonishing she-monster scared the crap out of me as a kid, I slep under the covers for years after seeing that a couple times on the Friday after-school sci-fi theater on TV....

War of the Worlds hooked me when I first saw it as a kid and I still dig the Martian Machine sounds and effects. I'm also fascinated by H-bomb footage. I love that Nevada Test Site footage of the bombs going off and the soldiers coming out of the trenches and marching towards it. I mean, really. Good thing I never made it to the top.
I'd second the Thing. Good pacing and great James Arness acting.

The Thing was scary.
That movie where the doctor keeps his wife's head alive was pretty scary.

Another vote for Alien.
Re: NWR: What is your scariest movie of all time?
Poltergeist had some scenes that made me jump.

I was just watching the Bella Lugosi 1931 version of Dracula, is there a greater line in film:
"There are far worse things awaiting man than death."
Since 1931, with all that was to come since then, is this not one of the great premonitions....

The Exorcist 1 though the Exorcist 2 is better (but not as scary).
Omen 1 also pretty good.

Come to think of it, I liked Altered States better.

I know it is a movie that people either loved or hated, but the Blair Witch Project was pretty damned scary to me.

Re: NWR: What is your scariest movie of all time?
There is an amazingly scary movie that Steven Spielberg made when he was just a lad, before Jaws. It's called, "Something Evil" and was shown on TV. It's really really scary - I highly recommend it. It's about devil possession at some country home, low budget, but brilliant stuff. Pure atmosphere and inventive camera work.
Otherwise there's always Persona by Ingmar Bergman - sleep well.

Agree with all of these, especially the Crawling Eye. I thought I was the only one living with the scary memory of that one. I haven't seen or even heard anyone talk about Crawling Eye since I was a kid. Don't suppose you've seen it recently?RDD wrote:Here are some more:
