Re: So what have you bought lately?
Just ordered a case from Grapes, JC, thanks for the lead.
I think this is the first time I've ever ordered from them.
They apparently ship to ME.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Unfortunately only 1 bottle of 2014 Picasses available since Jim scarfed them up.
So between 2015 and 2016, what do you guys think?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
If y’all like the classic Raffault style, also try Domaine Baudry’s cuvée, Les Grezeaux. It’s priced about the same, and is archetype Chinon.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Some 2016 Michel Magnien Bourgogne (Gevrey Chambertin Les Seuvrées and Morey-Saint-Denis1er Cru Les Chaffots).
Some Muscadet, naturally made Malbec from Argentina, and some 2015 Chateau Tour Saint-Bonnet (a superb qpr).
By the way, i like that Muscadet label. Looking forward to try the wine inside the bottle.

Haha, well I just meant one as a gift for him to sample. I taste with David infrequently enough that when we do, i'll be bringing much better wines for the crackin!OrlandoRobert wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 9:34 pmAnd if Doc comes to O-Town, the Bobbies will crack some as well. Nah, F that we do Rougeard!

Thanks guys. There’s always another great wine to buy.
So any thoughts about 2015 vs. 2016 Picasses? How do they compare to each other and the 2014? Good enough to pursue or look elsewhere? Grezeaux is available in 2019/2018…

Re: So what have you bought lately?
After enjoying a delightfull half bottle of 2015 Ch Beaucastel Cdp last night I happened upon 2 bottles of 2018 vintage in NH today. I couldn't resist for $70/btl. I also picked up a lone bottle of 2016 Brewer Clifton PN Machado vineyard for $60. It was definately an impulse buy just in case of a need for a tasting theme get together

I used to be on a bunch of list. Age/palate change had me trim things down. skipping Krankl, Maybach, Aubert, A-O, RP, R-M cabs, Eisele etc...
lists I kept and receive :
- mixed case+ from Bedrock, heritage old vine mixed blacks/zin, expo syrah, riesling and sauv blanc a week ago from Fri
- MACDONALD allocations, arrived last Monday
- La Pelle SVD cabs, sauv blancs coming this Mon/Tues
- Ceritas Martin Ray Santa Cruz mntn cab and mixed case of SVD chardonnay next week
- then some pending stuff I'll get shipped or pick up when I firm up some winemaker visits. (K-E, Tench, MAC, DB)
mostly back vintage burg/bordeaux if/when an auction or offer hits. they are scarce. Buying Rhone whites and champagnes just to keep stocked.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
We just got the kids passports pix/apps in so I'm hoping to start traveling again in 2022. It's been a very long time since I've visited de Blasio's rodent menagerie!jckba wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 12:35 am I do drink a lot of Loire Valley wines and think that the value proposition in Chinons like Olga Raffault Les Picasses or Baudry Les Grezeaux is unmatched as they pair perfectly with a wide variety of weekday meals without breaking the bank and they will last for years to come. I also have plenty of room in the cellar so storage fees do not apply.
Now it is my sincere belief that since global warming has been kind to this under-ripening variety; the thin, weedy examples are pretty much a thing of the past and if and when their popularity grows, I anticipate that the back vintages will eventually begin to appreciate thus giving me a better ROI as well as more options should I subsequently choose to trade, consign and/or sell provided that I don’t drink them all.
So Arv, when’s the next time you will be in NYC?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
The latest NH Cab/Merlot sale started yesterday. Unfortunately, they don't have many of the 2018's yet but did go after a couple of 2016's that i overlooked earlier.
6- 2016 Ch Giscours $61/btl
3- 2016 Ch d'Armailhac $49/btl
2- 2016 Ch Lilian Ladouys $23/btl (last 2 in stock, damn)
1- 2016 Ch Chasse-Spleen $34
It's early in the month so this may not be the end.

Unfortunately I can't justify a trip to Hookset or Portsmouth NH this month. Those two stores have inventory I'd like in my cellar.
But I did order a case of 2014 Ch. Lanessan yesterday. The first case I bought is half gone already.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Snagged a case of the recently released 2019 Cedric Bouchard Roses de Jeanne Val Vilaine Blanc de Noirs @ $80.99/per after case discount + tax.
The aggravating part in all of this is I also just recently asked my Polaner rep if I could get any of the highly allocated champagnes in their portfolio (Agrapart, Bouchard, Prevost and Selosse) and he was like you don’t by nearly enough to qualify. Needless to say I was unamused and slightly irritated by his matter of fact tone.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Well done! You won't regret either.
The only question is when? When to drink? Based on what we had at the chateau, the 2014 VCC can be enjoyed now with immense pleasure, but I bet it's ultimate peak is still a ways off. I can only imagine that an 05 Montrose will be a long term proposition.

I bought 2016 LLC for example, so probably tells you all you need to know

When buying multiples of one bottle, it does afford you the option to open one now and keep the others for later. If a suitable opportunity presents itself, I'll try one of the VCCs shortly, but I'm in no rush.
And happy to sit on Montrose for a good while yet. Per CT, drinking dates are between now and 2040, so probably a decade or so before I get to it!!

You did well, my friend. I actually think the VCC is shutting down, I’d hold for another 5 years minimum, 10 preferably. This is a fantastic wine. Buy some 2011 as well if you like these classic vintages.

Who said only bad things happen when you Wine-Searcher pro as I found these listed at a store in Westport, CT for $229.99/per which is well below market and bit the bullet as the opportunities to buy an OWC 6pack of Rougeard Les Poyeux are few and far between.

WS Pro is great, but I will say that with the crackdown on interstate shipping in recent years, it’s more of a tease than anything. The number of times I’ve tried to talk myself into a road trip to Massachusetts, for example.
